Sinfonia Toronto’s next Virtual Concert will top off the Beethoven anniversary year just before his actual 250th birthday on December 17. The Beethoven@250 concert will livestream on December 5 and remain online until January 4.

Maestro Nurhan Arman has selected a joyous program, with Beethoven’s Six Ländler Dances and the exuberant Symphony No. 7.

The Beethoven@250 concert will feature the premiere performance of Maestro Arman’s chamber orchestra arrangement of the Symphony No. 7.

Commenting on his arrangement Maestro Arman noted that, “In 1816 Beethoven’s publisher and good friend Sigmund Anton Steiner published a string quintet arrangement of the seventh symphony. That version was created by arrangers employed by Steiner’s publishing company, and was reviewed and approved by Beethoven himself. I have made adjustments to this 1816 quintet version and augmented it with Beethoven’s original string parts. I think this version will bring new dimensions to this amazing symphony. Paired with the set of folk-like, cheerful dances, this should give Herr Ludwig a very happy 250th birthday.”

Now in its 22nd season, Sinfonia Toronto has received glowing reviews for tours in Europe, the US, South America and China. It has released four CD’s, including a JUNO winner, and performs in many Ontario cities. Its extensive repertoire includes all the major string orchestra works of the 18th through 21st centuries, and it has premiered many new works. Under the baton of Nurhan Arman the orchestra’s performances present outstanding international guest artists and prominent Canadian musicians.

Nurhan Arman has conducted throughout Europe, Asia, South America, Canada and the US, returning regularly to many orchestras in Europe. Among the orchestras Maestro Arman has conducted are the Moscow Philharmonic, Deutsches Kammerorchester Frankfurt, Filarmonica Italiana, St. Petersburg State Hermitage Orchestra, Orchestre Regional d’Ile de France, Hungarian State Symphony, Arpeggione Kammerorchester, Milano Classica and Belgrade Philharmonic.
