RACHMANINOFF’S THIRD

Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 8:00 p.m.
Flato Markham Theatre for the Performing Arts

Dmitri was featured in an ARTE TV’s “Stars of tomorrow” performing Prokofiev’s First Piano Concerto. His recording of Rachmaninoff’s 24 Preludes was met with worldwide critical acclaim and earned Dmitri a nomination for the 2016 International Classical Music Award. Dmitri is the winner of over a dozen international piano competitions, including the China, Cleveland, and Germany Piano Awards, the Gina Bachauer, Jose Iturbi and the Vendôme Prizes. Most recent highlights include a feature episode on “Living the Classical Life”, a solo recital at the Mozart Saal of Alte Oper Frankfurt and appearance at the II International Mariinsky Far East Festival  with a solo recital as well as Rachmaninoff’s 4th Piano Concerto with Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev.

Although not penned for specific persons or those of the past, Bruch’s In Memoriam is a one-movement heartfelt lament for solo violin and orchestra. Ukrainian-Canadian pianist Dmitri Levkovich masterfully interprets Bartók’s Piano Concert No. 3: a piece written during the final few months of the composer’s life as a birthday gift for his wife.  After a seventeen-year compositional drought, Rachmaninoff’s final Symphony No. 3 harkens lush tones of the past Romantic era.
