Montreal, Dec. 15, 2020. Under the theme “Semons la beauté,” Pro Musica offers the new Carte blanche series in 2021, under the artistic direction of Irina Krasnyanskaya, and the return of Mélodînes, under the wing of Françoise Davoine. Nine digital concerts will be made available from Jan. 10 to May 9 on the Livetoune platform. A new concert will be broadcast every other Sunday, starting at 8:00 a.m., and will remain available for a period of two weeks.

“For this new season, we invite you to rediscover a very special era in the history of music, where the emphasis has been placed on the figure of the artist, his life and emotions,” says Krasnyanskaya. “Music that speaks to our soul, that frees our senses and our mind; I am talking, of course, about music from the Romantic period.”

For this first edition of Cartes Blanches, in which the repertoire of the Romantic period will be in the foreground, Kerson Leong (violin) and Stéphane Tétreault (cello) will each perform in duo, accompanied, respectively, by pianists Pamela Reimer and Lysandre Ménard. Pianist Serhiy Salov will present a solo recital. Then, as a closing event and as a world premiere, we will find our three headliners reunited on stage as a trio.

On Jan. 10, violinist Kerson Leong with pianist Pamela Reimer, will perform Grieg’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in C minor Op. 45 and Brahms’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor Op. 108.

On Feb. 14 cellist Stéphane Tétreault will be heard with pianist Lysandre Ménard in Schumann’s Fantasiestücke Op. 73, and Chopin’s Sonata for Cello and Piano in G minor, Op. 65.

On March 14 the pianist Serhiy Salov plays works by Mussorgsky: the Prelude from the opera Khovanshchina, A Night on the Bare Mountain and Pictures at an Exhibition.

On April 11 our three headliners are reunited for a world premiere with a program exploring Slavic manifestations of Romanticism: Dvořák’s Piano Trio in E minor Op. 90 (“Dumky”) and Rachmaninoff’s Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G Minor.

Carefully curated by Françoise Davoine, the Mélodînes series features five concerts by up-and-coming artists, which will be available, on the fourth Thursdays of the month, from January to April and on May 9.

These young musicians have been working hard from an early age. Pro Musica has long known how important it is to give them a chance to perform in concert.

On Jan. 31, 2021, Vive la France! will feature oboist Mélissa Tremblay accompanied by pianist Olivier Hébert-Bouchard.

On Feb. 28 Spain Ignites the Marimba offers percussionist Krystina Marcoux and cellist Juan Sebastián Delgado.

On March 28 guitarist Bruno Gauthier-Bellerose will present Europe-Americas: Guitar Without Borders

On April 25, pianist Viktor Lazarov will perform in East Wind: The Mystery of Slavic Music.

On May 9, the Duo Cavatine, with cellist Noémie Raymond-Friset and pianist Michel-Alexandre Broekaert will present Parfums de Paris.

Faithful to our mission to promote and facilitate access to classical music, Pro Musica offers affordable rates, both for individual concerts and annual subscriptions. Subscriptions or à la carte packages range from $15 for a concert to $120 for a VIP subscription to the Carte Blanche series.

All performances of the Carte Blanches series are recorded at the Domaine Bavarois/Bayerischer Hof, a property in Dunham in the Eastern Townships that has been made available to Pro Musica by a private donor. The concerts of the Mélodînes series were recorded at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur, in Montreal. In each case, health standards implemented by the Public Health Department were rigorously respected.
