“In recognition of the influence of my parents as patrons of the arts, and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the company founded by my father, Roger Dubois, and his partners Gilles Paquette and Maurice Lavallée, I would like to highlight the contribution of the Canimex company to the development of music in Quebec. About 50 years ago, Canimex pursued its musical calling by supporting the Canadian Music Competition, now known as the Canimex Canadian Music Competition. The company is active also in lending fine string instruments, including 12 instruments to members of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

“It is with great pleasure that I announce a series of three concerts titled Musique de chambre au féminin. The concerts take place at the chapel of the Collège Saint-Bernard in Drummondville, a room with excellent acoustics. My father has considered providing a loan of a concert piano for this beautiful space. With a capacity of 200, this is an ideal place for chamber music in the region.

“Two chamber ensembles and a small orchestra will join me in the three programs, on March 22, April 24 and (when?). The first, Mozart au féminin features three members (Amélie Lamontagne, violin, Nayiri Piloyan, viola and Sophie Coderre, cello) of the Quatuor Rhapsodie, whose fourth member, violinist Ana Drobac, uses an instrument on loan from Canimex.

“In the second concert, Théodore Dubois au féminin, I am joined by the Quatuor Claudel-Canimex (Élaine Marcil and Isabelle Gervais, violins; Annie Parent, viola; Jeanne de Chantal Marcil, cello). I have performed with this group at the Domaine Forget and the Orford Arts Centre together, among other places. The instruments originally used by this wonderful quartet, on loan from Canimex, were from the workshop of 19th-century French luthier Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. More recently the players have used three Stradivarius instruments and a Guadagnini, all thanks to Canimex. They will interpret in the two String Quartets of Théodore Dubois. The same composer’s Piano Quintet completes the program.

“Following these concerts is Bach au féminin, a program bringing together four female soloists and 10 members of the string section of the Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville under Thomas Le Duc-Moreau. Soloists are the pianists Katarzyna Musial (Concerto in F minor BWV 1056); Maria Sourjko (Concerto in G minor BWV 1058) and Isabelle David (Concerto in A major BWV 1055). The concert ends with the free transcription by Ferruccio Busoni and Dinu Lipatti of the Concerto in D minor BWV 1052, which I will play for the second time this season, following a performance on Nov. 3 with the Orchestre classique de Montréal under Boris Brott. This concert in Salle Pierre-Mercure of the Centre Pierre-Péladeau can be seen on YouTube.

“There will be previews on YouTube of the programs of March 22 and April 24. A video with the Quatuor Rhapsodie will feature the sublime first movement of Mozart’s Piano Quartet K. 478, in a very special setting, Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil Church, with a concert grand on loan from Canimex in a production by Marc-Antoine d’Aragon. The video with the Claudel-Canimex quartet will be of the Adagio non troppo from Théodore Dubois’s Piano Quintet. This will be filmed in the main hall of the Maison des Arts in Drummondville, with a 10-foot Fazioli concert grand on loan from Canimex, and a wooden conch shell.

Musique de chambre au féminin concerts take place on March 22 at 3 p.m. and April 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Collège Saint-Bernard in Drummondville. Tickets, available in Jean Coutu stores in Drummondville, cost $30. For more information, go to www.annemariedubois.com.
