Montreal, August 2nd, 2022 – On Sunday, August 14th at 9:00 pm, on the Mastro® and San Daniele® stage in Little Italy, all eyes will be on the presentation of the opera, “The Barber of Seville”, starring a cast of exceptional singers including Raphaëlle Paquette as Rosina, Hugo Laporte as Figaro, Louis-Charles Gagnon as Count Almaviva, Doug MacNaughton as Bartolo, and Alexandre Sylvestre as Don Basilio.

Under the artistic direction of Salvatore Sciascia, with a symphonic thirty-piece orchestra directed by Maestro Gianluca Martinenghi (Italy), the opera is always sure to be one of the festival’s highlights.

The performance of this year’s production of “The Barber of Seville” celebrates the Maestro Gioachino Rossini’s 230th anniversary. A two-act melodramatic opera based on the libretto by Cesare Sterbini, the story is one of love, lust, and deception. Head over heels in love with the beautiful Rosina, Count Almaviva will do everything in his power to win her heart, with the help of his notorious valet, Figaro… But at what cost?

The first festival to offer a free opera, ItalfestMTL honours this traditional artform by making it accessible to the public in an outdoor setting. In case of rain, however, the opera will be presented in the Notre-Dame-de-la- Défense Church with limited capacity. First come, first served.

ItalfestMTL offers you a renewed, entertaining and participative program, complemented by some online activities. For programming details, check out our website – italfestmtl.ca – and follow us on our social media.
