Montreal, August 25, 2022– The Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) announces the opening of applications for its upcoming violin edition, taking place from April 22 to May 4, 2023. Young violinists from around the world, born between January 1, 1993, and December 31, 2006, are invited to apply before November 15, 2022 on the CMIM website at concoursmontreal.ca/en/violin-2023. Eligibility criteria, terms and conditions, and the required repertoire are also available.

Following the preliminary international screening on video, 24 violinists will be invited to participate in the first round in front of the public in Montreal and live online across the world. Travel and accommodation expenses are provided to the selected violinists. Competitors are also encouraged to bring their own collaborative pianist, for whom the Concours will also provide housing and a stipend for travel. The Competition will culminate on the evenings of May 3 and 4 when each of the six finalists will perform a violin concerto with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal at the Maison symphonique.

KEY DATES

  • November 15, 2022, before midnight: application deadline
  • February 1, 2023: unveiling of the 24 competitors of Violin 2023
  • April 22, 2023: official opening of the Violin 2023 edition
  • April 24, 2024: welcoming of the 2023 Violin edition competitors to Montreal
  • April 25-27, 2023: first round
  • April 29-30, 2023: semi-final
  • May 3-4, 2023: final and award ceremony

PRIZES AND GRANTS

More than $156,000 CAD in prizes, bursaries, and awards will be granted at the end of the Violin 2023 edition. The CMIM would like to thank its loyal donors and the many partners who make such generous awards possible.

The Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) aims to discover and help the world’s most promising young singers, violinists and pianists. The CMIM is the only international competition in North America to be held annually and to feature three disciplines (piano, voice, and violin) in a three-year rotation.
