Montreal, Oct. 4, 2021. Clavecin en concert is proud to announce Fantaisies au pianoforte, a recital by Mélisande McNabney to be held Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the concert hall of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.

Fantasy in music has a long history, and keyboard instruments are its main vectors. In the 18th century in Germany, the fantasia is presented as a kind of notated improvisation, related to the prelude and toccata. The fantasia can reveal the “genius” of its composer, exhibit the virtuosity of the performer or create an atmosphere full of dramatic surprises…

Mélisande McNabney performs keyboard music from all ages on the harpsichord, fortepiano and piano. In August 2015, she received the third prize at the International Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges, Belgium. An active concert artist, she has been heard as a soloist, notably in the Clavecin en Concert series and the Jacques Dansereau series at the Bourgie Hall, as well as in many festivals in Canada and Europe. Already having participated in recordings as a member of various ensembles, Mélisande released her first solo album on ATMA Classique, Inspirations: D’Anglebert, Forqueray, Rameau, in January 2019. Acclaimed by critics, this album earned, among other awards, “five Diapasons” from the famous French magazine of that title. In 2021, Mélisande will release her second solo album, this time on the fortepiano, again on ATMA Classique. A graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory, where she studied harpsichord, continuo and fortepiano in the classes of Bob van Asperen and Richard Egarr, Mélisande obtained her doctorate in May 2017 at McGill University under the supervision of Hank Knox and Tom Beghin, thanks to the support of the Joseph-Armand-Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship Program.

Mélisande will play on a copy (Rodney Regier, 2019) of an instrument by the Viennese maker Anton Walter (1752-1826).
