May 15, 2018, Toronto, Ontario – Lydia Adams, the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto for the past 34 years, has announced she will be stepping down at the end of the 2018-2019 concert season, the choir’s 45th season. Under Ms. Adams’ inspired direction, the Amadeus Choir has become known as one of Canada’s pre-eminent choirs, presenting a wide range of repertoire, from sacred and secular a cappella gems to the great oratorio masterworks. She is one of the leading forces in commissioning, premiering, performing and recording Canadian choral works.

Through Lydia Adams’ initiative, the Amadeus Choir has worked with many emerging and established composers and conductors. Ms. Adams is the founder of the Amadeus Choir’s Seasonal Song-Writing Competition, which to date has generated hundreds of new compositions and encouraged many children, youth and adults, both established and amateur composers, to engage in the art of composition.

“We are truly grateful to Lydia for the vision and passion she has brought to our community. We wish her success as she moves on to pursue other creative projects,” says Mary Gray, Amadeus Choir Board President. “It is an exciting transitional era for the Amadeus Choir as we look forward to celebrating Lydia’s artistic leadership and performing many of the great choral works during this special anniversary season.” The Amadeus Choir’s Board of Directors has created a Search Committee to select a new Artistic Director for the organization as part of its broader Strategic Plan for 2018-2021.

The Amadeus Choir will conclude the 2018-2019 season with a celebratory performance of the timeless masterwork, the Bach B-Minor Mass. The choir will be joined by the Elmer Iseler Singers, soloists and orchestra.
