Quebec City, September 13, 2019Les Violons du Roy is proud to announce its first-ever tour in Asia, which will take it to South Korea and China from October 29 to November 5, 2019. Under music director Jonathan Cohen and featuring internationally renowned pianist Marc-André Hamelin, the orchestra will showcase Quebec talent in Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, and Quebec City’s sister city Xi’an with performances of works from the Classical period, including Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 27.

Les Violons du Roy is delighted to team up once again with Marc-André Hamelin, an acclaimed virtuoso with whom it recorded three Haydn piano concertos for Hyperion and did a 10-concert tour of North America in 2015. Mr. Hamelin is one of Canada’s most prominent international artists, performing regularly with the world’s most prestigious ensembles at leading concert halls around the globe. An accomplished musician, he has garnered multiple awards and nine Grammy nominations for his many recordings. He was named Officer of the Order of Canada in 2003.

Les Violons du Roy is one of Canada’s most active orchestras on the international scene. This tour of Asia was arranged in partnership with Askonas Holt, a leading arts management company. It is Les Violons du Roy’s 52nd international tour since the orchestra was founded in 1984. On October 14, the orchestra will celebrate the 35th anniversary of its very first concert.

Les Violons du Roy could not have built such a strong international presence without generous support from public and private organizations. This tour was made possible by a cultural development agreement between the government of Québec and the City of Quebec. Les Violons du Roy would also like to thank the Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, National Bank, and the orchestra’s valued patrons for their support of its upcoming tour.
