After Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and Washington, Lang Lang will play at the Maison symphonique for the Montréal Bach Festival, performing Bach’s iconic Goldberg Variations.

Lang Lang is a leading figure in classical music today – as a pianist, educator and philanthropist he has become one of the world’s most influential and committed ambassadors for the arts in the 21st century. Equally happy playing for billions of people at the 2008 Olympic Opening Ceremony in Beijing or just for a few hundred children in public schools, he is a master of communicating through music.

Returning after a career-threatening injury, which kept him from playing piano for over a year, the world’s most famous classical pianist has been rethinking his approach to music.During that time, he studied Bach and early music, and also went to the Netherlands for study and research on this repertoire that he has never played before. The Montreal Bach Festival is proud to be part of Lang Lang’s first tour with this repertoire.

This is the first time that the Festival is producing a concert in spring.

Lang Lang plays sold-out concerts all over the world. He has formed ongoing collaborations with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Barenboim and Christoph Eschenbach.

I wouldn’t cross the street to hear Bach played on the piano – particularly by the over-hyped Lang-Lang. How many pianos will he use? (For the harpsichord, the Variations requires a 2 manual instrument.)
