From Classical to Modern with Anika Vavic in Gümüşlük

“Great talent, brilliant technique and smart and passionate playing” is how Zubin Mehta, one of the world’s greatest living conductors, describes Serbian pianist Anika Vavic. This was no exaggeration, as music lovers learned last night when Vavic took the stage at the Gümüşlük Ancient Stone Quarry as part of the 12th International Gümüşlük Classical Music Festival sponsored by DenizBank. Billed as a musical journey From Classical to Modern with Anika Vavic in Gümüşlük , the Serbian pianist’s performance at the Gümüşlük Music Festival included works by Josef Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven and Sergei Prokofiev.

Vavic began her life as a musician at the age of eight. Since then, her luminous career has included solo recitals as well as piano concerts, chamber music performances and radio and television programs. The accomplished pianist has taken the stage at countless of the world’s most prestigious concert halls under the baton of great conductors and accompanied by highly respected orchestras. Her performances include appearances at the White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, the Heidelberg Spring Festival and the Istanbul Music Festival, and her chamber music partners include such leading names as Gautier and Renaud Capuçon, Daniel Hope, Rainer Honeck, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Daniel Müller-Schott, Caroline Widmann, Claudius Popp, Matthias Schorn and the Aquilon Quintet.


A refreshing Viennese breeze in Gümüşlük

The month-long 12th International Gümüşlük Classical Music Festival continues to host some of today’s most important classical musicians. Serbian pianist Anika Vavic began last night’s unforgettable concert with Josef Haydn’s Piano Sonata in D Major (Hob. XVI/19) followed by Piano Sonata in D Major (Op.10/3) by Ludwig van Beethoven. Following the intermission, Vavic’s program concluded with a performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 6 in A Major. However, in response to relentless applause by the Festival audience, Vavic returned to the stage and closed the evening with her beautiful interpretation of D. Scarlatti.
