Ensemble Caprice showcases local musical diversity with the premiere performance of Près du Soleil/Near the Sun

Montreal, September 5, 2019Ars subtilior, a complex and refined musical style derived from the Ars Nova, was the starting point for a unique collaboration between Ensemble Caprice and Constantinople. This encounter has produced an innovative new concert production, Près du Soleil/Near the Sun, featuring a refined blending of medieval, European and Eastern musical colours. The new Montreal season is set to begin on September 21st at 8:00 p.m. in Bourgie Concert Hall, 1339 Sherbrooke St. W.

A Collaboration involving Constantinople, soprano Rebecca Dowd, and Persian vocalist Kiya Tabassian

Près du Soleil/Near the Sun, invites audiences to let themselves be carried away on an enchanting voyage as the sounds and complex rhythms of the instruments of the Iranian-Quebecois group Constantinop Rebecca le mingle with those of Ensemble Caprice’s vielle and recorders.

The voices of soprano Dowd and Persian vocalist Kiya Tabassian will intertwine beautifully with the musical colours of the medieval pieces on the programme, which will include, among other offerings: Libre Vermell, Matteo di Perugia, and Johannes Ciconia.

This concert demonstrates Ensemble Caprice’s versatility and adaptability, its capacity to embraces eclectic and non-conventional repertory.”
