Chœur des enfants de Montréal seeking new Artistic Director
The Chœur des enfants de Montréal is searching for an Artistic Director (AD) beginning in July 2016. The organization has a membership of over 120 children performing in one of four ensembles: Beginner (5-6), Preparatory (6-7), Junior (8-10) and Senior (11-17). The singers explore a diverse and spirited repertoire encompassing music from the Renaissance to the present day. The AD must be available for rehearsals on Mondays from 4 – 6 pm and on Wednesdays from 4 – 8 pm at the NDG Community Centre.
Duties of the position include recruitment, teaching vocal skills, mentoring assistant conductor(s), programming, planning rehearsals, long-range planning, in addition to directing the chorus(es) in performance. From time to time, duties also include preparing the choir for performances with other artistic organizations, including the OSM.
The successful applicant would be expected to collaborate closely with the assistant conductor(s), the choir manager, the board of directors and various committee chairs to ensure both administrative and musical continuity and growth.
Applicants should have a strong musical background, a positive attitude and a demonstrated ability for working with children.
Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in vocal production, vocal technique instruction, and choral technique for children
  • Extensive knowledge of standard and contemporary choral repertoire for children
  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • A working knowledge of language pronunciation in French, English, German, Latin, Italian and Spanish is an asset.
