The McGill Chamber Orchestra (MCO) invites you to an evening awash in romance! Chocolates & Love Songs, our popular Valentine’s evening, returns to the elegant Sofitel hotel. The sumptuous evening features a chocolate-themed gourmet dinner, with an open bar at cocktail hour, and amorous music that will enthrall and delight. Prepare to fall in love with performances by soprano Sharon Azrieli, pianist Michel-Alexandre Broekaert, and the celebrated a cappella quartet QUARTOM.
Four charming and charismatic singers founded the Quartom vocal quartet in 2008. With time-honored music training, from children’s choirs to university, the quartet’s members perform a repertoire that revisits the world of classical music and includes popular music from Brassens to the Beatles, from Leclerc to Beau Dommage. Their insightful interpretations, obvious mutual affection, and contagious good humor have charmed audiences throughout Quebec and Canada, as well as Europe. They have just released their third recording, “Renaissance” on the ATMA Classique label
Sharon Azrieli’s magnificent spinto soprano has been heard to great acclaim across the globe, from New York to Tokyo, and from Tel Aviv to her native Montreal. In December, she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera, as Suor Dolicina in Puccini’s Il trittico. From her debut as Juliette in Roméo et Juliette to recent portrayals of Verdi heroines Aida and Leonora, (Il Trovatore), Azrieli has been deemed “utterly charming” (Sarasota Herald Tribune) and praised for her “exceedingly beautiful voice, full of feeling” (Ha’aretz). Among her varied philanthropic and entrepreneurial work, Sharon Azrieli created the Azrieli Foundation’s $150,000 composition and commission competition, the Azrieli Music Prizes.
Michel-Alexandre Broekaert is a much sought-after collaborative pianist who is well known for his musical sensitivity and versatility. Broekaert has won the Special prize of the Concours International de chant-piano Nadia et Lili Boulanger in 2011, the Second prize of Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon in 2013, and the Pianist Prize at the Mary Trueman Art Song Vocal Competition in 2016. He toured several times with Jeunesses Musicales Canada, in chamber music formations as well as pianist and artistic director. Broekaert earned his Doctorate in Piano Performance at the Université de Montréal. He is currently a collaborative pianist at the Université de Montréal and McGill University.
The McGill Chamber Orchestra is celebrating its 79th season. The Orchestra has toured widely presenting concerts in 17 countries on five continents to great critical acclaim.
