Montreal, March 16, 2020 – It is with profound regret that we announce the cancellation of the 22nd edition of Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival, initially scheduled for May 1 to 6, 2020. This cancellation is just one of many closures brought about by the health emergency caused by the COVID19 virus and was preceded by a number of national and international authors withdrawing from the event. The public’s safety is at the heart of our concerns, and we urge you to respect the health measures implemented by the government to counteract the spread of the virus.

Children’s program postponed and activities for the whole family to do now Regarding the 2020 TD-Blue Metropolis Children’s Festival, scheduled to take place in April, it may be postponed until the end of May or beginning of June, since its activities are dependent on access to schools and public libraries. Details will be provided as soon as possible to our school audience and to parents.

It should be noted that Blue Metropolis already has a selection of creativity workshops for the whole family on its website (www.bluemetropolis.org). These activities, intended to stimulate the imaginations of children between the ages of 6 and 11, can be just as entertaining for parents. In addition, we will soon provide a number of reading recommendations on our social media platforms. We are announcing, right now, the creation of a SPONTANEOUS BOOK CLUB for readers of all ages, with complimentary vouchers to be used at bookstores. Details to come soon on our Facebook page.

Blue Metropolis at a glance Blue Metropolis Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1997 that brings together people from different cultures to share the pleasures of reading and writing and encourage creativity and intercultural understanding. The Foundation produces an annual literary festival of international calibre and offers a wide range of educational and social programs year-round, both in the classroom and online. Because reading and writing are more than entertaining pastimes, these programs use them as therapeutic tools, to encourage academic perseverance and fight against poverty and social isolation.
