Tickets for the July 5 Gala Concert are on sale at the box office of the Maison des arts: 819-477-5412, 1-800-265-5412 toll-free, at [email protected] or on the Maison des arts website.

It is with great joy that I invite Drummondville’s music lovers to attend the concert by their symphony orchestra, featuring the winners of the 2016 Canadian Music Competition as soloists; it is a great honour to be able to play a role in the development of their burgeoning careers. There’s no doubt we will be hearing about them for a long time to come, so be sure to join us!”, says Julien Proulx, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Orchestre Symphonique de Drummondville.

As Chairman of the Orchestre Symphonique de Drummondville’s Board of Directors, I believe that music is an artistic endeavour that allows young people to assert their personalities, express themselves, and enrich their minds. SOPREMA is proud to support the Canadian Music Competition, and would like to highlight the extent to which the event contributes to furthering the influence and success of emerging Canadian musical talent”, says M. Richard Voyer, SOPREMA vice-president and executive director for North America.

The CMC sincerely thanks the Canimex Group, its main sponsor for this 2016 edition and partner for more than 40 years. “Hosting the gala concert of the Stepping Stone and the Canadian Music Competition – Canimex is a unique opportunity for our region. We invite you to this high point of the 58th edition of this prestigious competition, bringing together nearly 230 candidates in Drummondville since June 12. This great concert is a combination of the talented winners with the professionalism of the OSD for a very special evening,” says Roger Dubois, the company’s president.

The public is also invited to enjoy an impressive violin-making exhibition, offered free of charge by The Makers’ Forum in the entrance hall of the Maison des arts. Several instruments will be on display on July 5, starting at 6 pm. The centrepiece of this exhibition is undoubtedly the octobass, the largest and lowest pitched of the string family. This gem was recently acquired by patrons Roger and Huguette Dubois, of the Canimex Group, and marks a world premiere, as only three instruments of this kind can be found worldwide.

The CMC also thanks Steinway & Sons and Pianos Bolduc Montréal, UL Mutual, Soprema, Ville de Drummondville, FSH, Canadian Tire of Drummondville, Desjardins, Jeunesses Musicales Canada Foundation, Power Corporation of Canada, Québecor, Maison des arts Desjardins Drummondville, Cégep de Drummondville, Fondation Père Lindsay, and Faculté de musique de l’Université de Montréal.

Being the only Canada-wide classical music competition for young performers, the CMC brings together close to 600 participants aged 7 to 25 (30 for voice) each year. The Stepping Stone is a professional competition held every two years. Some thirty candidates of ages 16 to 28 (31 for voice)—among the country’s most promising performers— take part. Open to a wide range of instruments, the Competition and Stepping Stone are the only competitions of their kind in Canada.
