Melody Ye Yuan and 2 other violinists added to the list of 24 competitors

Montréal, May 15, 2019 – Following the withdrawal of competitors William Lee, Stephen Kim, and Stella Chen from the Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM), Canadian violinist Melody Ye Yuan, along with Korean Jung Min Choi and American-Korean Christine Lim are added to the line-up of competitors taking part in the Violin edition of the CMIM, from May 27 to June 5 in Montreal.

24 competitors have been invited to participate in the First Round, at Salle Bourgie. The musicians, ages 16 to 28, were selected by a preliminary jury from nearly 200 applications. This year, 11 countries are represented. Over $150 000 in prizes and awards will be given during the award ceremony on June 5 at the Maison Symphonique.

The new performance order schedule is:

29 May


11 a.m.: Yukari Ohno (Japan), Daichi Nakamura (Japan – Austria), Hyun Jae Lim (South Korea), Jung Min Choi (South Korea)

3 p.m.: Leonard Fu (Germany), Youjin Lee (South Korea), Zachary Brandon (United States), Coco Tomita (Japan)

7:30 p.m.: Elli Choi (United States), Christine Lim (United States –  South Korea), Elina Buksha (Latvia), Lun Li (China)

 

30 May

11 a.m.: Jinyoung Yoon (South Korea), Olga Šroubková (Czech Republic), Hao Zhou (United States), Anna Lee (États-Unis – Corée du Sud)

3 p.m.: Vasyl Zatsikha (Ukraine), Hannah Tarley (United States), Gyehee Kim (South Korea), Fumika Mohri (Japan – Germany)

7:30 p.m.: Johanna Pichlmair (Austria), Michiru Matsuyama (Japan), Maria Dueñas (Spain), Melody Ye Yuan (Canada)

Special Events at the CMIM

In addition to the competition rounds, the CMIM will present many events and concerts showcasing the rich repertoire for violin:

  • Mini Violini: Five international prodigies give a recital (May 27) and perform a concerto with I Musici de Montréal (May 28), at Bourgie Hall.
  • Bach 2 Bach: The Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach performed by Dmitry Sitkovetsky (violin), Kim Kashkashian (alto) and Matt Haimovitz (cello). Special appearance by Ayana Tsuji, winner of the 2016 edition of the CMIM, June 3 at the Maison Symphonique.

Considered as one of the great cultural achievements in Canada, the CMIM is the only international competition in North America to be held annually and to feature three disciplines (piano, voice, and violin) in a three-year rotation.
