2017 Cliburn Competition Prizes Annouced

FORT WORTH, Texas, February 1, 2017—The Cliburn is proud to announce winners prize packages for the Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (May 25–June 10, 2017), highlighted by a new partnership with a highly esteemed international company, KEYNOTE ARTIST MANAGEMENT.

Since its inception in 1962, the Cliburn has remained committed not only to identifying exceptional pianists who represent the highest in artistic achievement, but also to nurturing those artists and launching their careers. To that end, it offers a comprehensive career management program for the three Competition medalists.

For the 2017 Competition, London-based KEYNOTE ARTIST MANAGEMENT will coordinate international concert tours and a career mentorship program for the gold medalist; and UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP’s U.S. Classical label will produce and distribute live recordings for the three medalists, with more details to be announced. The Cliburn itself books hundreds of recital, festival, and orchestra concert engagements across the United States for the three medalists in the three years following each Competition. It also provides full artist services, including publicity packages and media relations support and training, as well as programming, visas, and logistics support.

The three medalists also will travel together to New York for their first post-Competition appearance. Through a special partnership with WQXR 105.9 FM, the new winners will appear at THE JEROME L. GREENE PERFORMANCE SPACE (44 Charlton Street, New York, NY 10014) on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. ET for an evening of short performances and interviews hosted by WQXR’s Elliott Forrest.

Additionally, the Cliburn is announcing the transition of Vadym Kholodenko and Beatrice Rana—the gold and silver medalists of the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, respectively—to professional management. Full details on their growing careers are below.

2013 WINNERS CAREER MANAGEMENT

Over the past three years, the winners of the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition have given over 300 performances on five continents; released seven acclaimed recordings; and garnered recognition from The New York TimesLos Angeles TimesGramophoneInternational Piano magazine, and the BBC and WFMT radio.

2013 Cliburn Gold Medalist Vadym Kholodenko has signed with Sulivan Sweetland Artist Management (internationally) and Baker Artists LLC (for North America). 2013 Cliburn Silver Medalist Beatrice Rana is represented by Solea Management (internationally) and Primo Artists (in North and South America).

ABOUT VADYM KHOLODENKO
Vadym Kholodenko, 30, has emerged as one of the most musically dynamic and technically gifted performers of his generation, heralded for interpretations that are “impeccable, tasteful and vibrant, and also something more: imaginative” (Cleveland Plain Dealer). Mr. Kholodenko is forging an international career throughout Europe, Asia, and North America to great acclaim. During the 2016/2017 season, he makes his London debut in recital at London Symphony Orchestra at St Luke’s and in concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Alexander Shelley. He also makes his Paris concerto debut at the Philharmonie with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev. Other appearances include: the Norwegian Radio Orchestra in Bucharest, Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester, Prague Symphony Orchestra at the Bratislava Festival, Malaysian Philharmonic, and a return to the RTVE Symphony Orchestra. Recital tours take Kholodenko throughout Japan, China, Europe, and Russia. Kholodenko also takes up the position of artist-in-residence at the Fribourg International Piano Series in Switzerland this season. He enters the third year of his artistic partnership with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and returns to the Rochester Philharmonic in New York. European engagements include debuts with the BBC Scottish, Kristiansand Symphony, Spanish National, and Sydney Symphony Orchestras. In August 2015, he appeared in Zurich with the Moscow Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev under the auspices of the Orpheum Foundation for the Advancement of Young Soloists. ABOUT BEATRICE RANA
For performances heralded as “intensely personalized music-making” (The Dallas Morning News), 23-year-old Italian pianist Beatrice Rana won the Silver Medal and the Audience Award at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2013. Since then, she continues to build a reputation for sophisticated interpretations of emotional depth, prompting Gramophone  magazine to proclaim that she “possesses an old soul that belies her 20 years, and more than a touch of genius.”  During the 2016/2017 season, Ms. Rana will embark on an international recital tour of Bach’s Goldberg Variations to Wigmore Hall (London), Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (Paris), Berlin Konzerthaus, and San Francisco Performances among others. Further recitals include Munich, Milan, Rome, Tokyo, and South Korea. She makes concerto appearances with Riccardo Chailly and Filarmonica della Scala, Fabio Luisi and NHK Symphony, Antonio Pappano and Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia at the Lugano Festival, as well as RAI Torino, Orchestra Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Zurich Kammer Orchester at the Cologne Philharmonie, and Luzern Sinfonieorchester at the KKL. She was named “One to Watch” by International Piano magazine in 2013 just before her Cliburn appearance, and her artistry was highlighted again in the magazine’s “30 under 30” list in 2014. Ms. Rana recently finished recording the Prokofiev Concerto No. 2 and Tchaikovsky Concerto No. 1 with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and Antonio Pappano for Warner Classics. This disc will join her acclaimed solo recordings previously released by harmonia mundi (2013) and ATMA Classique (2012). Other recordings include Bach Goldberg Variations for Warner Classics (forthcoming). She is a 2015 BBC New Generation Artist and a 2016 awardee of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust fellowship.

CLIBURN LIVE
The Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition will feature a fully produced webcast live from Fort Worth from May 25–June 10, 2017. The dynamic, multicamera webcast will bring the Competition to life around the world in real time, with over 110 hours of live broadcasts of performances, interview segments, and awards ceremonies over the 17-day period. It will also include hours of other compelling material, including competitor profiles, taped interviews, featurettes on the many aspects of the Competition (including its 1,200 volunteer force), and other behind-the-scenes glimpses.
