MONTREAL
St. Lawrence Choir

As the first concert of the Slava! series, the St. Lawrence Choir will present Slavic music under the direction of Philippe Bourque. Rachmaninoff’s Vespers will be this concert’s main work. The choir will also perform works by Hurko and Koshetz, in addition to two unpublished pieces by Larysa Kuzmenko and Petros Shoujounian. The a cappella concert will be held on Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Saint Sophie Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in the presence of composers Hurko, Kuzmenko and Shoujounian. www.choeur.qc.ca

One Equall Musick

The ensemble One Equall Musick, specializing in Early Music, will present the High Tea Concert on Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. at Dawson Hall, St. James United Church. This concert will be an opportunity to have tea while listening to choral masterpieces from the 15th to the 17th centuries. The program includes the madrigal “What is Our Life” by Gibbons, polychoral motets by Gabrieli and French medieval songs. The concert is part of a fundraising campaign. www.oneequallmusick.org

Voces Boreales

The Voces Boreales vocal ensemble, conducted by Andrew Gray, will perform the Quintessence concert on Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel. This concert is the last of a series on the elements. Quintessence is the name given to the fifth element, which is subtle and intangible. This concept appears in many cultures, including Hindu and Indigenous. The a cappella choir will perform works by Jeff Enns, Eric Whitacre and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi. This will also be a chance to hear the North American premiere of Icelandic composer Páll Ragnar Pálsson. www.vocesboreales.org

OSM Chorus

As part of the Montreal Bach Festival, the OSM and OSM Chorus will perform Bach’s Mass in B minor on Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Kent Nagano at the Maison symphonique. The soloists are Hélène Guillemette, soprano, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, contralto, Julian Prégardien, tenor and Peter Harvey, baritone. www.osm.ca  

Opus Novum Choir

The Opus Novum Choir, under the direction of Dorothéa Ventura, presents the a program featuring eclectic night- and Nativity-themed works, including Janequin’s Toutes les Nuits, Rameau’s O Nuit, Barber’s Sure on this Shining Night, Miller’s Moonlight Serenade, and traditional Christmas carols. The choir will be accompanied by Julien Girard on organ and piano. The concert is on Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Saint-Leonard Church. www.choeuropusnovum.com

Orchestre Métropolitain Chorus

Choeur métropolitain

The Orchestre Métropolitain Chorus, conducted by François A. Ouimet and Pierre Tourville, will perform the “Tous en chœur” concert on Dec. 23 at 3 p.m. at the Maison symphonique. For the occasion, the choir will welcome the Chœur Musique-études du secondaire de l’École de musique Vincent-d’Indy, the soloists of the Opéra de Montréal and organist Vincent Boucher. They will perform excerpts from Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols and cantata Rejoice in the Lamb and Dvořák’s Mass in D Major. The public will also be invited to sing hymns under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. www.orchestremetropolitain.com

OTTAWA-GATINEAU
Chœur classique de l’Outaouais

The Chœur classique de l’Outaouais under the direction of Tiphaine Legrand will perform Handel’s Dixit Dominus at a Christmas concert on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and on Dec. 9 at 3:30 p.m. at Saint-François-de-Sales Church of Gatineau. The proceeds will be used to restore the heritage church. The program will be supplemented by traditional Christmas carols. The choir will be accompanied by soloists from the University of Ottawa, the Ensemble Prisme, Frédéric Lacroix at the organ and the Tout-en-Chanson choir of the Gatineau Massé Elementary School. www.choeurclassiqueoutaouais.ca

Ottawa Choral Society

The Ottawa Choral Society, as part of Chamberfest, will host the internationally renowned King’s Singers on Dec. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Dominion-Chalmers United Church in Ottawa. The legendary sextet vocal highlights its 50th anniversary with a world tour. The Ottawa Choral Society under the direction of Jean-Sébastien Vallée will add their voices to offer an unforgettable concert. www.choralsociety.com

Chœur Bach d’Ottawa

Elmer Iseler Singers

The Elmer Iseler Singers under Lydia Adams will join forces with the Toronto Children’s Choir (conductor Elise Bradley) in We Remember, a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day. With trumpeter Stan Klebanoff and guest conductor Bob Chilcott, the choirs perform works about war and peace that represent the four Allied nations: Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Orpheus Choir

Stratford Festival veteran and favourite Geraint Wyn-Davies joins the Orpheus Choir to present Dylan Thomas’s classic holiday memoir. Telling the story of a boy reminiscing about Christmas, it emerged from a piece originally written for BBC Radio. Under artistic director and conductor Robert Cooper, the Orpheus choir will add festive holiday classics alongside Thomas’s beloved work.
