Seattle Opera – Ode to Beethoven with Sarah Larsen and John Keene

In celebration of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday, Seattle Opera presents a recital with mezzo-soprano Sarah Larsen and pianist, John Keene in collaboration with the This is Beethoven festival by Emerald City Music. Ms. Larsen has prepared a program with selections by Ludwig van Beethoven as well as pieces by female composers Fanny Mendelssohn and Dame Ethel Smyth who were greatly influenced by Beethoven’s style. According to Larsen this women wrote, “with extensive range–exploring harsh, stark textures as well as soft, fluid ones. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center – Beethoven Celebration: The Early Period

With sixteen essential works arranged chronologically to reveal his evolving artistry, this twelve-hour marathon concert is punctuated by introductions to each of Beethoven’s three signature periods, specially created by Bruce Adolphe. Four additional lectures and a Meet the Music! concert for families round out this historic day of memorable performances by a stellar cast of CMS artists.
