Despite the many cancellations caused by the new restrictions announced last week by Quebec Premier François Legault, we are looking forward to a number of webcasts coming up featuring Canadian musicians and ensembles. Here are our picks for the month of October:

  • October 2th: Prayer (Fung) and Das Lied von der Erde (Mahler) conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Joining the Orchestre Métropolitain for the Mahler are Michèle Losier and Frédéric Antoun. Available on demand until Oct. 9th. Details here.
  • October 6th: In the Footsteps of the Bourgeois Gentilhomme, with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra conducted by Susanna Mälkki. Details here.
  • October 9th: Così fan tutte live from the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse conducted by Speranza Capucci, with Julie Boulianne in the role of Dorabella. The cast also includes Anne-Catherine Gillet, Sandrine Buendia, Mathias Vidal, Alexandre Duhamel, Jean-Fernand Setti. Details here.
  • October 13th: The Planets (Holst), with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra conducted by Susanna Mälkki. Details here.
  • October 15th: 40th Anniversary Virtual Gala of Allegra Chambre Music, with special guest Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the piano. Details here.
  • October 16th: Peter and the Wolf (in French), a coproduction between the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde and the Orchestre Métropolitain featuring OM musicians under the baton of Nicolas Ellis and actors Benoît Brière, Jean-François Casabonne, Sophie Desmarais, Fayolle Jean, Benoît McGinnis, Victor Andres Trelles Turgeon.   • October 17th: The Resounding Concert, in support of Koerner Hall and The Royal Conservatory of Music, is a free online benefit featuring a host of international superstars who have performed at Koerner Hall and have become its worldwide ambassadors. Lineup includes Jan Lisiecki, Barbara Hannigan, k.d. lang, Sondra Radvanovsky and James Ehnes. Details here.
  • October 24th: Le nozze di Figaro live from the San Francisco Opera, conducted by Patrick Summers, with Philippe Sly in the title role. The cast also includes Lisette Oropesa, Nadine Sierra, Luca Pisaroni and Kate Lindsey. Details here.

  • October 26th: The Ultime Guide to Eating Halloween Candy, with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra conducted by TSO Principal Education Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser. Sink your sweet tooth into a candy-centred hour of musical mayhem and Halloween hilarity. This program promises tricks and treats to satisfy your whole family. Details here.
  • October 30th: The Little Prince (in French), a coproduction between the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde and the Orchestre Métropolitain featuring OM musicians under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin and actors Benoît Brière, Jean-François Casabonne, Sophie Desmarais, Fayolle Jean, Victor Andres Trelles Turgeon and Renaud Lacelle-Bourdon. Details here.
