Les Caprices de la Nuit with Les Violons du Roy

On October 13, join violinist and conductor Anthony Marwood and Les Violons du Roy for an evening of exceptional chamber music for strings. The concert includes the String Sextet from Richard Strauss’s final opera Capriccio, Mozart’s charming String Quintet in G minor, and Schoenberg’s late-Romantic Verklärte Nacht. James Ehnes @ 40

Continue the celebration of James Ehnes’s 40th birthday as he stops in Quebec City on his way across Canada. With longtime collaborator Andrew Armstrong, Ehnes will play chamber music by Handel, Beethoven, a selection of virtuosic showpieces, and a new commission by Bramwell Tovey entitled Stream of Limelight. Presented by the Club Musical de Québec. October 18, 8PM, Salle Raoul-Jobin, Palais Montcalm.

Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi

Get a taste of the tragic and the comic in one sitting with the Opéra de Québec’s double-feature of Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, known best for the aria “O mio babbino caro.” These two one-act operas are the most-performed (and most-loved) two-thirds of Puccini’s famed Il trittico. Suor Angelica stars soprano Gianna Corbisiero as the title character and mezzo-soprano Sonia Racine as the Princess. Gianni Schicchi is played by baritone Gregory Dahl, with soprano Audrey Larose Zicat as Lauretta and tenor Steeve Michaud as Rinuccio. Featuring the Opéra de Québec Chorus and the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, conducted by Joseph Rescigno. Grand Théâtre de Québec, October 22, 25, 27, and 29.

Four Bach Cantatas

Bernard Labadie conducts Les Violons du Roy in a concert of four cantatas by J.S. Bach: Falsche Welt, dir trau ich nicht, BWV 52, Ich habe genug, BWV 82, Ich bin vergnügt mit meinem Glücke, BWV 84, and Ach Gott, wie manches Herzeleid, BWV 58. Soloists include soprano Lydia Teuscher, baritone Tyler Duncan, mezzo Maude Brunet, and tenor Jacques-Olivier Chartier. October 27, 8PM and 29, 2PM, Salle Raoul-Jobin, Palais Montcalm.

Strauss’s Oboe Concerto with the OSQ

Join the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec for an eclectic concert of Rameau, Mozart, and Zemlinski. Principal oboist Philippe Magnan performs Richard Strauss’s late Concerto in D major for Oboe and Small Orchestra. Artistic Director Fabien Gabel conducts. November 2nd, 7:30PM, Salle Raoul-Jobin, Palais Montcalm.

Gabetta and Chamayou at Club Musical

French pianist Bertrand Chamayou joins superstar Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta for an afternoon of rhapsodic chamber music. The concert features an early Beethoven sonata, Britten’s Sonata in C Major, and Chopin’s Sonata in G minor. November 5, 2PM, Salle Raoul-Jobin, Palais Montcalm.
