Montreal-born maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin begins the month in Munich guest conducting the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in a program of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 “Italian,” and Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with soloist Franz Peter Zimmermann (Nov. 3 & 4). The following weekend, he returns to Philadelphia for a concert of Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin and Daphnis et Chloé with the young Benjamin Beilman as the soloist for the Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 1 (Nov. 10–12). They take the show on the road to Carnegie Hall on November 15.

The Philadelphia Orchestra under Nézet-Séguin performs again November 17–19 in the Tenth Anniversary Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ Celebration with organist Paul Jacobs. The program features Barber’s Toccata festiva, for organ and orchestra, Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No. 3 “Organ,” and the world premiere of American composer Christopher Rouse’s Organ Concerto. www.yannicknezetseguin.com

Talented young pianist Jan Lisiecki has a busy November, with concerts on four continents. He begins with the tail-end of his 7-city Korea and China tour (Oct. 28–Nov. 8) and returns to North America for a two-concert gig with the Indianapolis Symphony conducted by Krzysztof Urbański, where he will play the Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor by Chopin (Nov. 12 and 13). Following this, the Calgary-born pianist has a four-night engagement in São Paulo, Brazil with the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo conducted by Juraj Valcuha, where he will play Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor (Nov. 17–20). Lisiecki ends the month with the towering Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 in Luxembourg with Gustavo Gimeno and the Orchestre Philharmonique Luxembourg. www.janlisiecki.com

Nova Scotia-born soprano Barbara Hannigan begins November in Badenweiler, Germany for a recital of Bartók, Berg, Schoenberg, and Chausson with the Emerson String Quartet, and Huw Watkins on piano (Nov. 5). Later in the month she participates in the world premiere of Gerald Barry’s Alice’s Adventures Under Ground as the title character. The cast includes Allison Cook, Hilary Summers, Allan Clayton, Peter Tantsits, Mark Stone, and Joshua Bloom. On November 22, the show plays once at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles with the LA Philharmonic New Music Group before crossing the pond for another one-night engagement, this time at London’s Barbican theatre with the Britten Sinfonia (Nov. 28). Canadian Brass in Japan, US

After a three-night stopover at the National Arts Centre, the Canadian Brass will pack their bags for a seven-city tour of Japan (Nov. 11–22). The following month, they will travel coast-to-coast across America, making 11 stops along the way. The Canadian Brass, which has gone through many configurations, is currently Caleb Hudson (trumpet), Chris Coletti (trumpet), Bernhard Scully (horn), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (trombone), and Chuck Daellenbach (tuba). www.canadianbrass.com 

James Ehnes and the Ehnes Quartet

After wrapping up his Ehnes @40 tour in St John’s, Newfoundland at the Tuckamore Festival, James Ehnes will hop the pond to play the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Hallé Orchestra and Sir Mark Elder in Manchester (Nov. 10) and Bath (Nov. 12). With the Ehnes Quartet (violinist Amy Schwartz Moretti, violist Richard O’Neill, and cellist Edward Arron), the Brandon, Manitoba native will play Mozart, Bartók, Dvořák, and Tchaikovsky in Detroit (Nov. 18), Santa Monica (Nov. 19), Liverpool, UK (Nov. 23), and Bilbao, Spain (Nov. 25). He closes out the month performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Edward Gardner (Nov. 26). www.jamesehnes.com

Daniel Taylor and Joshua

After a busy month with a CD launch with the Trinity Choir, a November 20 concert at St. Basil’s Church directing the University of Toronto’s Schola Cantorum and the Theatre of Early Music in Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Vivaldi’s Gloria, and a November 25 appearance at the Montreal Bach Festival in a concert with the Trinity Choir entitled Hymns of Winter, the countertenor travels to San Francisco, California for a CD recording and four concerts of Handel’s Joshua with The Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Philharmonia Baroque Chorale, under the direction of Nicolas McGegan (Nov. 28–Dec. 4). www.danieltaylor.ca
