CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians, Musiciens amateurs du Canada) is organizing its musical season for 2019 from June 23 to Aug. 11 under the artistic direction of Guylaine Lemaire. Faithful to its tradition, this inter-generational camp for amateur musicians continues its mission, which reflects the deep conviction of its founders that ensemble music creates interpersonal links that transcend differences in age, language and culture and allows people to all ages to share their love of music.

“Young people are learning from the more experienced and vice versa,” says general manager Julie Roy. This reflects the founding principle of the centre, that the practice of music and the arts is an important element in achieving a balanced life. It is in this spirit that the music centre brings together participants from around the world for seven weeks in the Laurentians each summer, and offers different stays throughout the year for individuals, couples and families of all levels and all ages, centred around music and in an enchanting environment in the midst of nature. “CAMMAC allows musicians of all ages to indulge their passion in a warm, bilingual environment and in a beautiful natural environment,” Roy says. “What could be better than a quiet canoe trip after a choir practice, a Broadway dance session or a rehearsal of a chamber music duet!”

Seven weeks of pure enchantment

The general manager wishes to underline the highlights of the program – in particular, the intensive choir week (June 23 to June 30, 2019) in which both experienced choristers and novice singers participate. Courses offered include recorder, master class in singing, vocal technique, dance, yoga, choral techniques, large choir and vocal ensembles.

Also noteworthy is the World Music Week (July 28 to Aug. 4) with the participation of, among others, musicians from the Centre des musiciens du monde of Montreal. This week, which also features an intensive guitar program, will be a musical journey around the world, from flamenco to French chanson, from popular music to film music. Among the courses offered are large choir, classical guitar, flamenco guitar, accompaniment of songs on guitar (various styles), flamenco dance, master classes in singing, vocal technique, recorder, active listening (world music), piano and percussion of the world.
