Coll a connu un succ\u00e8s consid\u00e9rable avec son \u0153uvre orchestrale <i>Hidd\u2019n Blue<\/i> op. 6. La violoniste Patricia Kopatchinskaja et le chef d\u2019orchestre Gustavo Cimeno d\u00e9fendent activement sa musique, et tous deux se produiront avec l\u2019Orchestre symphonique de Toronto en avril prochain pour deux repr\u00e9sentations du <i>Concerto pour violon<\/i> de Coll. Cimeno a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 directeur musical du TSO l\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, mais n\u2019a jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent pas pu occuper ses fonctions en raison de la pand\u00e9mie. Sans vouloir insister sur ce point, la musique de Coll est graveleuse et sans compromis. Les auditeurs moins charitables pourraient la rejeter comme \u00e9tant sans m\u00e9lodie et sans int\u00e9r\u00eat. Le <i>Concerto pour violon<\/i> est particuli\u00e8rement ardu \u00e0 la fois pour la soliste, \u00e0 qui l\u2019on donne \u00e0 peine plus que des raclures disgracieuses pour travailler, et pour l\u2019auditeur, qui doit endurer 28 minutes de musique difficile \u00e0 comprendre. Kopatchinskaja est aussi la soliste d\u2019une pi\u00e8ce beaucoup plus accessible, avec ses rythmes espagnols inspir\u00e9s de <i>Carmen<\/i>. Peut-\u00eatre que d\u2019autres auditeurs peuvent trouver plus \u00e0 appr\u00e9cier dans la musique de Coll.
