Le Credo, command\u00e9 en 1996 par l&#8217;acad\u00e9mie Bach de Stuttgart et le festival Bach de l&#8217;Oregon, est impr\u00e9gn\u00e9 d&#8217;un sentiment de lib\u00e9ration, une lib\u00e9ration de l&#8217;obligation de plaire \u00e0 quiconque en dessous des anges.<\/p>\n<p>Elle est richement textur\u00e9e et abondamment m\u00e9lodique. Certains passages rappellent la <em>Symphonie de Psaumes<\/em> de Stravinsky et la <em>Symphonie de la r\u00e9surrection<\/em> de Mahler, mais Penderecki ne regarde pas longtemps vers le pass\u00e9. Il trouve des moments d&#8217;une originalit\u00e9 m\u00e9morable pour cinq solistes &#8211; la soprano Juliane Banse, la basse Thomas Quasthoff, le t\u00e9nor Thomas Randle et les mezzos Marietta Simpson et Milagro Vargas &#8211; qu&#8217;il garde frais pour une \u00e9norme apoth\u00e9ose avec l&#8217;orchestre et le ch\u0153ur de l&#8217;Oregon, dirig\u00e9s par Helmut Rilling. Les climax sont sensationnels, et font partie de la musique la plus forte que Penderecki ait jamais cr\u00e9\u00e9e. Cet enregistrement en direct de la premi\u00e8re en Oregon nous ram\u00e8ne \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 un lointain festival universitaire am\u00e9ricain \u00e9tait suffisamment ambitieux pour s&#8217;engager aupr\u00e8s des meilleurs compositeurs vivants.
