Joseph was an inspiration to me, as he was to so many singers. But more importantly, he played a central role as chairman of the advisory council of the Azrieli Music Prize. He was with me from the beginning when we created AMP in 2015 \u2013 ever more cooperative, charming, intelligent and thoughtful. He was also kind enough to help other musicians, including the Orchestre Classique de Montr\u00e9al, then the McGill Chamber Orchestra.\u00a0Joseph was really a force of nature. I can\u2019t imagine the world without him. In my role as executive director, I tremendously enjoyed working with him. He was always positive and supportive.\u00a0Everyone at the OCM is devastated by the passing of this great man who helped the orchestra tremendously. He was the type of man who was able to pick up the phone and immediately get results with fundraising resources. He was truly one of kind.\u00a0Joseph leaves a shining legacy for the OCM and for the entire arts industry. He will always be in our hearts. Joseph\u2019s leadership as Chair of the McGill Chamber Orchestra, and its transition to the Orchestre classique de Montreal, is the most recent in a lifetime of accomplishments for which I am eternally grateful. I have had the honour to conduct Joseph as a concert soloist as well; one of my most cherished memories is La Damnation de Faust in Hamilton in the 1970s. Stefano Algieri and Jane Eaglen sang the parts of Siegmund and Sieglinde. For the part of Hunding, the then 76-year-old Joseph Rouleau accepted our invitation, and although he had never sung that part before, he memorized it, sang it with immense expression and authenticity, with diction that suggested a singer of German rather than French tongue, and added some semi-staging to this otherwise concert-like performance with the kind of artistry which nobody could ever forget, on or off stage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Joseph Rouleau\u2019s dedication as president of Jeunesses Musicales and his involvement with numerous musical institutions, particularly in Montreal, is legendary, and he set an immense example not only for young singers and musicians, but in fact for all of us in the music community. He was one of our most celebrated soloists and he will be in our thoughts throughout the coming season, particularly in several MGSO concerts which include singers. Joseph Rouleau\u2019s passing is a moment of great sadness, but also of saying a deep and heartfelt \u201cthank you\u201d to a great artist and human being!
