Sa sant\u00e9 avait \u00e9t\u00e9 durement affaiblie par un internement dans un camp pendant l&#8217;occupation allemande.<\/p>\n<p>Dou\u00e9 d\u2019un esprit assoiff\u00e9, Skalkottas s&#8217;\u00e9tait inscrit dans la classe d&#8217;Arnold Schoenberg \u00e0 Berlin de 1927 \u00e0 1932, apprenant l\u2019ultramoderne s\u00e9rialisme en composition, y int\u00e9grant son penchant naturel pour les m\u00e9lodies m\u00e9diterran\u00e9ennes. Quand Skalkottas entre dans le s\u00e9rialisme, c\u2019est avec une douce l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9, les doigts voletant sur les touches noires, des ondelettes vaporeuses embrassant les rivages de l\u2019\u00eele. J&#8217;affectionne particuli\u00e8rement la suite de 1941 o\u00f9, alors que le monde s&#8217;\u00e9croule autour de lui, Skalkottas con\u00e7oit des polkas et des tangos dans une partition stricte de douze notes, exub\u00e9rant d&#8217;espoir et d\u2019enjouement.
