Puisqu&#8217;il a achev\u00e9 l&#8217;oratorio le matin m\u00eame du concert, les r\u00e9p\u00e9titions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 rudes et les musiciens \u00e9taient de mauvais poil. M\u00eame avec le recul, on ne sait pas trop comment ils ont assimil\u00e9 cette \u0153uvre \u00e9pisodique, qui passe d\u2019envol\u00e9es inspir\u00e9es au remplissage de notes.<\/p>\n<p>Dans les mouvements les plus sublimes \u2013 l\u2019introduction orchestrale et l\u2019aria pour t\u00e9nor <em>Meine Seele<\/em> <em>ist<\/em> <em>ersch\u00fcttert<\/em><em>,<\/em> (\u00ab\u00a0mon \u00e2me tremble\u00a0\u00bb), nous reconnaissons la mati\u00e8re brute de ce qui deviendra <em>Fidelio<\/em> et la <em>Symphonie n\u1d52\u00a09<\/em>, touchant des profondeurs inexplor\u00e9es de l\u2019\u00e2me humaine. Et m\u00eame dans les mouvements les plus simples, on reste b\u00e9at d\u2019admiration devant la fluidit\u00e9 orchestrale de Beethoven, son int\u00e9gration des bois et des cuivres et sa facult\u00e9 de maintenir l\u2019harmonie malgr\u00e9 un texte laborieux. Le librettiste \u00e9tait d\u2019ailleurs, soit dit en passant, r\u00e9dacteur d&#8217;un journal du soir.<\/p>\n<p>Bien qu\u2019elle ait \u00e9t\u00e9 assez populaire en Am\u00e9rique au XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, l\u2019\u0153uvre n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 souvent enregistr\u00e9e \u2013 presque pas du tout \u2013 par les chefs de premier plan. Personnellement, je pr\u00e9f\u00e9rais jusqu\u2019\u00e0 maintenant la version d\u2019Eugene Ormandy de 1964 avec l\u2019Orchestre de Philadelphie, comprenant des ensembles choraux et les solistes Richard Lewis, Judith Raskin et Herbert Beattie.<\/p>\n<p>Je suis port\u00e9 \u00e0 croire que ce nouvel enregistrement d\u00e9passe la version plus lourde de Philadelphie \u00e0 presque tous les \u00e9gards. Leif Segerstam, le chef d\u00e9jant\u00e9 de la musique finlandaise, trouve le rythme id\u00e9al pour raconter ce drame biblique. L\u2019Orchestre philharmonique de Turku et le ch\u0153ur de la cath\u00e9drale locale font preuve autant de d\u00e9licatesse que de lourdeur, et les solistes \u2013 Hanna-Leena Haapam\u00e4ki, Jussi Mylls et Niklas Spangberg \u2013 sont sans conteste des artistes de premier rang. Le 6<sup>e<\/sup> mouvement, <em>Heil euch ihr Erl\u00f6sten<\/em>, (\u00ab\u00a0Salut au r\u00e9dempteur\u00a0\u00bb) va directement dans mon dossier d\u2019\u00e9coutes \u00e0 l&#8217;aveugle. De la musique sensationnelle, brillamment interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e.
