La for\u00admule est simple : en premier, le groupe initie le public au <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\"><i>free jazz <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">en proposant de courtes improvisations suivies d\u2019explications portant sur l\u2019histoire de cette musique ; la seconde partie prend la forme d\u2019une causerie pendant laquelle le public est invit\u00e9 \u00e0 discuter de la port\u00e9e sociale du jazz ; finalement, la soir\u00e9e se termine avec une s\u00e9ance d\u2019improvisation collective \u00e0 laquelle le public est convi\u00e9. Le Jazz libre donne des concerts-forums aux c\u00e9geps de Rosemont et de Maisonneuve ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McGill, au Centre de transition de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9\u00adbec et au Centre culturel de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Sherbrooke. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">Il monte aussi sur la sc\u00e8ne du G\u00e9su dans le cadre de la Semaine de l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance du Coll\u00e8ge Sainte-Marie, puis r\u00e9pond favorablement \u00e0 l\u2019invitation du comit\u00e9 d\u2019organi\u00adsation du carnaval d\u2019hiver de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al et \u00e0 celles des associations \u00e9tudiantes du Coll\u00e8ge de Victo\u00adriaville et de l\u2019\u00c9cole des Beaux-arts. Comme l\u2019explique un chroniqueur du journal \u00e9tudiant <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\"><i>Quartier latin<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">, ces concerts-forums sont l\u2019occasion pour plusieurs jeunes de d\u00e9couvrir le <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\"><i>free jazz <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">tout en discutant de \u00ab musique, de lib\u00e9ration, de cr\u00e9ation, de l\u2019homme nouveau, de ce que chacun vit avec tout le <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">mond<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">e[<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">1]\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">\u00bb. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">Le Jazz libre con\u00e7oit le projet d\u2019une tourn\u00e9e qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise de concerts-forums avant m\u00eame de se lancer dans l\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\"><i>Osstidcho<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">. Ne pouvant savoir qu\u2019il finira par accompagner Char\u00adlebois et ses complices pendant plusieurs mois, le quartet soumet une demande de financement au minist\u00e8re des Affaires culturelles dans les jours qui pr\u00e9c\u00e8dent la premi\u00e8re du spectacle au Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de quat\u2019sous. Pr\u00e9fontaine esp\u00e8re obtenir le soutien n\u00e9cessaire pour une tourn\u00e9e estivale des centres culturels de la province. Le projet d\u2019animation qu\u2019il propose est bas\u00e9 sur la formule du concert-forum augmen\u00adt\u00e9e d\u2019un dispositif d\u2019\u00e9clairage et de projection. L\u2019utilisation d\u2019un \u00ab Orgue de <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\"><b>c<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">ouleur[<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">2]\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">\u00bb constitue pour Pr\u00e9fontaine une solution au probl\u00e8me de l\u2019\u00e9parpillement sensoriel qu\u2019il associe aux projections psych\u00e9d\u00e9liques. Cet intrigant dis\u00adpositif est compos\u00e9 d\u2019un stroboscope, de quatre projecteurs \u00e0 lentilles et d\u2019un nombre \u00e9quivalent de microphones rat\u00adtach\u00e9s \u00e0 une console. Plus de 300 diapositives \u2013 des pho\u00adtos des musiciens, des images abstraites et des illustrations th\u00e9matiques (sur la guerre, l\u2019environnement et les relations humaines) \u2013 peuvent ainsi d\u00e9filer \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran en fonction du rythme et du volume de la musique. Le groupe souhaite aussi acqu\u00e9rir un lot d\u2019instruments percussifs con\u00e7us par Orff et semblables \u00e0 ceux utilis\u00e9s par Rossignol dans le cadre de ses ateliers d\u2019animation culturelle. Malheureusement, sa demande de financement s\u2019embourbe dans la bureau\u00adcratie minist\u00e9rielle, et ce, malgr\u00e9 les efforts de Pr\u00e9fontaine pour convaincre ses interlocuteurs au minist\u00e8re des Affaires culturelles et \u00e0 la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des centres culturels de la pro\u00advince de la pertinence du projet. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">L\u2019\u00e9chec de cette demande de financement \u00e9tonne les quatre musiciens puisqu\u2019ils sont convaincus du poten\u00adtiel mobilisateur de leur musique-action. Dans une lettre adress\u00e9e \u00e0 Gilbert Comtois, directeur de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des centres culturels, Pr\u00e9fontaine manifeste son d\u00e9sarroi en regard des obstacles rencontr\u00e9s par les membres du groupe \u00ab au sein m\u00eame des seuls organismes d\u2019\u00c9tat habilit\u00e9s \u00e0 leur venir en aide \u00bb, d\u2019autant plus que pour chacun des concerts-forums donn\u00e9s au printemps, \u00ab le succ\u00e8s a \u00e9t\u00e9 total et inesp\u00e9r\u00e9, au point qu\u2019il \u00e9tait difficile d\u2019y mettre un terme m\u00eame apr\u00e8s trois ou quatre <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">rappels[<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">3]\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">\u00bb. Le \u00ab Doc \u00bb exag\u00e8re sans doute lorsqu\u2019il d\u00e9crit la r\u00e9ponse des jeunes au <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\"><i>free jazz<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">. N\u2019emp\u00eache que le Jazz libre suscite leur curiosit\u00e9. Jacques Valois, \u00e0 qui le groupe fait parfois appel pour remplacer Maurice Richard en 1969 et 1970, se souviendra d\u2019une performance matinale dans une \u00e9cole : une exp\u00e9rience \u00e0 la fois difficile, \u00e0 cause de ses habitudes de vie nocturne, et engageante, consid\u00e9rant la disponibilit\u00e9 et la curiosit\u00e9 des \u00e9tudiant\u00b7<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">es[<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">4]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><span lang=\"fr-CA\">.
