The Gryphon Trio, comprising Annalee Patipatanakoon (violin), Roman Borys (cello) and James Parker (piano), has been appointed directors designate of Banff\u2019s Classical Music Summer programs beginning in 2019-20 following the successful completion of the three-year tenure of co-artistic directors Claire Chase and Steven Schick. It\u2019s a homecoming, as the trio met as students at Banff in the 1980s. The appointment will help build cultural bridges between Banff, Ottawa Chamberfest and the University of Toronto, where the Trio holds positions.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil (OSDL) a nomm\u00e9 Alexandre Da Costa comme son troisi\u00e8me directeur artistique et chef attitr\u00e9 \u00e0 compter de la saison 2019-2020. Le contrat est d\u2019une dur\u00e9e de cinq ans. Da Costa succ\u00e8de \u00e0 Marc David, en poste depuis vingt-cinq ans. Le bassoniste et chef d\u2019orchestre Mathieu Lussier sera le prochain directeur artistique d\u2019Arion Orchestre Baroque et prendra ses fonctions \u00e0 la saison 2020-2021. Il succ\u00e9dera \u00e0 Claire Guimond, qui assurera la transition avec Mathieu Lussier gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une codirection la saison prochaine.<\/p>\n

The University of Ottawa School of Music has inaugurated a new collaborative program with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in which a select number of students are chosen annually by audition to train, work and perform with NACO members and principals in a mentorship environment. U of O violist Alisa Klebanov, who took part in this program, also won the NAC 2018 Bursary Competition and will be a soloist with NACO this season.<\/p>\n

Espace OSM: The Montreal Symphony Orchestra has opened a new space next to the Maison symphonique. This public area is an extension of the OSM\u2019s mission to promote classical music, educate and entertain.<\/p>\n

CMIM Violin 2019 has unveiled its 24 participants: 15 women and nine men between the ages of 16 and 28, from 13 nations. The United States leads with seven, followed by Japan and South Korea with five violinists each. Canada, unfortunately, was shut out. Running May 29 to June 5 in Montreal, the competition offers $150,000 in prizes, including a $100,000 first prize. www.concoursmontreal.ca<\/p>\n
