Or, dans les ann\u00e9es 1920, la grande \u00e9cole Juilliard voit le jour. En peu de temps, la ville devient l\u2019un des p\u00f4les majeurs de l\u2019industrie musicale.<\/p>\n<p>Cette \u00e9bullition suscite la curiosit\u00e9. Entre autres, on se demande\u00a0: \u00e0 quoi ressemblait un concert \u00e0 New York durant cette p\u00e9riode ? C\u2019est la question qu\u2019Autour de la fl\u00fbte a voulu \u00e9lucider en pr\u00e9sentant \u00ab New York, 1920\u00a0\u00bb. Avec des instruments anciens, un programme \u00e9tudi\u00e9 et les techniques pertinentes, Aleks Sch\u00fcrmer (fl\u00fbte), Antoine Malette-Ch\u00e9nier (harpe) et Jennifer Thiessen (alto) ont talentueusement reconstitu\u00e9 une prestation d\u2019\u00e9poque.<\/p>\n<p>Ce type de concert pr\u00e9sente un int\u00e9r\u00eat particulier. En cherchant \u00e0 savoir, par exemple, comment l\u2019on jouait Rameau ou Mozart au d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle, on d\u00e9gage une vision de la musique susceptible d\u2019enrichir la n\u00f4tre.<\/p>\n<p>Or, la bonne marche d\u2019un tel concept n\u00e9cessite un travail de mise en contexte. La directrice de la compagnie, Mika Putterman, et les interpr\u00e8tes en avaient bien conscience. Ils ont pris le temps de d\u00e9crire leurs instruments\u00a0(une fl\u00fbte conique en bois de 1870, une harpe \u00e0 p\u00e9dales de 1940 et un alto avec cordes en boyau). Ils ont de m\u00eame rappel\u00e9 les techniques interpr\u00e9tatives de l\u2019\u00e9poque (aux instruments \u00e0 cordes, par exemple, le vibrato et le <em>portamento<\/em> \u00e9taient particuli\u00e8rement estim\u00e9s).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/myscena.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/search.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-372926\" src=\"https:\/\/myscena.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/search.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"256\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Le programme, conforme au go\u00fbt des Ann\u00e9es folles, offrait une palette g\u00e9n\u00e9reuse, avec des compositeurs aussi diff\u00e9rents que Rameau, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Elgar, Debussy, Salzedo, Bax et de Falla. De plus, il d\u00e9notait une intention louable de mettre en valeur chaque instrument. L\u2019on a ainsi fait succ\u00e9der \u00e0 un arrangement pour fl\u00fbte et harpe de la <em>Sonate en mi mineur<\/em>, K. 304, de Mozart un arrangement pour harpe et alto de la <em>Vocalise<\/em> de Rachmaninov. C\u2019\u00e9tait fournir l\u2019occasion au public de bien go\u00fbter non seulement le contraste des styles mais surtout les sp\u00e9cificit\u00e9s de chaque timbre.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019un des moments les plus r\u00e9ussis s\u2019est av\u00e9r\u00e9 la <em>Sonate pour fl\u00fbte, alto et harpe<\/em>, L. 137, de Debussy. L\u2019organicit\u00e9 de l\u2019ensemble y a atteint des sommets. On s\u2019attachait \u00e0 se renvoyer les \u00e9nergies de la musique, \u00e0 en d\u00e9gager les fortes correspondances. Entre la sonorit\u00e9 parfois tranchante de l\u2019alto et la douceur bois\u00e9e de la fl\u00fbte, la harpe prodiguait un jeu souple, plein d\u2019intentions, et donnait au trio une solide fondation.<\/p>\n<p>En bref, le concept s\u2019est montr\u00e9 fructueux \u2014 qui plus est original au regard de la sc\u00e8ne montr\u00e9alaise.
