Santander, August 5th 2018.- <\/u>This evening has been held the Closing Gala and Awards Ceremony of the 19th<\/sup> Paloma O\u2019Shea Santander International Piano Competition.<\/p>\n

The event has been attended by the President of the Government of Cantabria, Miguel \u00c1ngel Revilla; the Mayoress of Santander, Gema Igual; and the President of the Alb\u00e9niz Foundation and of the Santander Piano Competition, Paloma O\u2019Shea.<\/p>\n

The Gala, presented by Eva Sandoval, has begun with the six finalists\u2019 performance of Khachaturian\u2019s \u201cSabre dance\u201d (arrangement by Walden Hughes for 2 pianos and 12 hands<\/em>).<\/p>\n

After Mrs. Paloma O\u2019Shea\u2019s brief speech, Miguel \u00c1ngel Revilla has handed in the Finalist Prizes to Federico Nicoletta (Italy), Lucas Thomazinho (Brazil) y Juan Carlos Fern\u00e1ndez-Nieto (Spain).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Luis Olaya-Gonz\u00e1lez, Business & Information Services Director, together with the Notary Public Rafael Segura B\u00e1ez, have handed in the Canon Audience Award to Juan Carlos Fern\u00e1ndez-Nieto<\/strong>. The Canon Audience Award consists of a series of premium products of Canon and it is decided through the voting of those attending the Finals on August 3rd<\/sup> and 4th<\/sup> at the Argenta Hall of the Palacio de Festivales.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, the President of the Jury, Joaqu\u00edn Ach\u00facarro, have read the decision of the Jury<\/strong>, bestowing the three First Prizes to:<\/p>\n

Dmytro Choni (Ukraine)<\/strong>,<\/strong> First Prize and Golden Medal. He has received 30,000\u20ac, a concert tour through Spain and abroad, and the recording of a CD for the Naxos label company.<\/p>\n

Yutong Sun (People\u2019s Republic of China),<\/strong> Second Prize \u201cBerg\u00e9 y Compa\u00f1\u00eda\u201d and Silver Medal. This prize includes 20,000\u20ac and a concert tour through Spain and abroad.<\/p>\n

Aleksandr Kliuchko (Russian Federation)<\/strong>, <\/strong>Third Prize and Bronze Medal. He received 10,000\u20ac and a concert tour through Spain and abroad.<\/p>\n

The medals were handed in by the Mayoress of Santander, and the diplomas where delivered by the President of the Government of Cantabria.<\/p>\n

The laureates offered a brief performance to the audience.<\/p>\n

The Closing Gala has been live broadcast through TVE channel 2<\/strong>, www.rtve.es<\/strong> and the Competition\u2019s YouTube channel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
