Il est form\u00e9 par quatre fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs, chacun y offrant son talent, sa virtuosit\u00e9 et une grande ma\u00eetrise de son instrument. Jean et Cendrine sont au violon, tandis que Maxime est \u00e0 l\u2019alto et Val\u00e9rie au violoncelle. Cet \u00e9t\u00e9, le Quatuor Despax c\u00e9l\u00e9brera le quinzi\u00e8me anniversaire de la formation.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est en 2003, sous la direction de leur ma\u00eetre Calvin Sieb, que les quatre jeunes Despax, \u00e2g\u00e9s de quinze \u00e0 vingt ans, ont lanc\u00e9 leur carri\u00e8re de quatuor \u00e0 cordes. L\u2019aspiration de chacun \u00e0 devenir musicien professionnel s\u2019est alors traduite par une formation exploitant ainsi le potentiel de chacun. Pr\u00e9destin\u00e9s \u00e0 la musique, h\u00e9ritiers d\u2019un savoir-faire dans le domaine, ils n\u2019ont pas seulement re\u00e7u une formation musicale classique aupr\u00e8s des institutions musicales, mais ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9s dans la musique. N\u00e9s de parents musiciens accomplis, ils ont fort probablement entendu la vie avant de la voir. La musique et la famille pour eux sont deux concepts interd\u00e9pendants, pour le bonheur de l\u2019auditoire, une des sources de professionnalisme d\u2019une rare complicit\u00e9. D\u2019une m\u00e8re pianiste et professeure de musique et d\u2019un p\u00e8re principalement compositeur et chef d\u2019orchestre, ils ont su maintenir et consolider leurs liens. Plusieurs Gatinois se souviendront d\u2019Emmanuel Despax en tant que professeur de musique dans plusieurs \u00e9coles de la commission scolaire des Portages-de-l\u2019Outaouais ainsi que directeur de la chorale Saint-Pierre-Chanel, qu\u2019il dirige depuis maintenant plus de trente ans. Il n\u2019est donc pas surprenant que la <em>Fantaisie pour quatuor \u00e0 cordes<\/em> soit \u00e0 l\u2019honneur dans l\u2019album du Quatuor Despax.<\/p>\n<p>Leur succ\u00e8s r\u00e9side non seulement dans cette relation solide liant chacun des musiciens, mais aussi dans un cheminement professionnel des plus prolifiques. Outre le conservatoire de musique de Gatineau, ils ont \u00e9galement \u00e9tudi\u00e9 au conservatoire de musique de Montr\u00e9al. Depuis 2003, les quatre jeunes fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs se sont produits ensemble r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement dans diff\u00e9rents festivals ou s\u00e9ries de concerts en Ontario et au Qu\u00e9bec. La s\u00e9rie des Mardis classiques de Gatineau, le festival de Westben, le festival Alexandria, le festival Musique et autres mondes d\u2019Ottawa et le festival Luminato \u00e0 Toronto sont quelques-uns des nombreux \u00e9v\u00e9nements o\u00f9 le quatuor a pu jouer. Plusieurs ann\u00e9es cons\u00e9cutives, le quatuor s\u2019est \u00e9galement produit \u00e0 l\u2019international, notamment en France dans les r\u00e9gions parisienne, normande et sud-ouest ainsi qu\u2019en Italie.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 2006, il remporte le concours en r\u00e9sidence des Concerts aux \u00celes du Bic. Cendrine Despax souligne l\u2019influence positive sur la croissance du quatuor des rencontres dans le cadre des festivals, sp\u00e9cialement celles avec d\u2019autres quatuors d\u2019envergure internationale. Par un mentorat professionnel et par les nombreux ateliers de ma\u00eetre auxquels il a particip\u00e9, le Quatuor Despax a su se frayer un chemin vers l\u2019excellence musicale.<\/p>\n<p>Le Quatuor Despax se donne aussi comme mission de mettre en valeur la musique liturgique actuelle, et ce, d\u2019une mani\u00e8re purement classique, proposant de l\u2019interpr\u00e9ter dans ses lieux de pr\u00e9dilection. C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019il se retrouve en r\u00e9sidence \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9glise Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montr\u00e9al de 2011 \u00e0 2013 et, depuis septembre 2013, qu\u2019il r\u00e9side \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9glise Notre-Dame-de-la-Guadeloupe \u00e0 Gatineau. Le 4 juillet prochain, ils y c\u00e9l\u00e9breront les quinze ann\u00e9es du Quatuor Despax. D\u2019autres concerts seront offerts au cours de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 2018 afin de souligner l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement.<\/p>\n<p>www.quatuordespax.com<\/p>\n<p>summer they will celebrate the quartet\u2019s fifteenth anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>In 2003, the four youths, aged between 15 and 20, launched their career as a string quartet under the auspices of their maestro, Calvin Sieb. Their aspirations to become professional musicians led them to pursue a formation allowing each member to exploit their individual potential. One can say the Despax children were predestined for music. Heirs of musical expertise and know-how, they grew up surrounded by music in addition to receiving formal training in musical institutions. With accomplished musicians as parents, they most likely heard life before they saw it. They indeed consider family and music to be two interdependent concepts, and this belief manifests itself onstage, where they display a rare mix of complicity and professionalism, to the delight of the audience. With their mother, a pianist and music teacher, and their father, mainly a composer and conductor, the quartet have managed to maintain and consolidate their family\u2019s bond. Many Gatineau residents will remember Emmanuel Despax as a music teacher for the Portages-de-l\u2019Outaouais school board and as the director of the Saint-Pierre-Chanel choir, which he has been running for over thirty years. It therefore is not surprising that <em>Fantaisie pour quatuor \u00e0 cordes<\/em> is honoured on Despax Quartet\u2019s album.<\/p>\n<p>The quartet owes its success not only to the solid relationship that binds its musicians but also to its remarkably prolific career path. In addition to Gatineau\u2019s Conservatoire de musique, they studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Montr\u00e9al. Since 2003, the four young siblings have regularly been invited to play at various festivals and concert series in Quebec and Ontario: Gatineau\u2019s Mardis classiques series, the Westben Festival, the Festival Alexandria, Ottawa\u2019s Music and Beyond Festival and the Luminato Festival are but a few of the events the quartet has participated in. For many consecutive years now, it has also delivered concerts abroad in places like Normandy, Paris, the Southwest of France and Italy.<\/p>\n<p>In summer 2006, they won the Concerts aux Iles du Bic\u2019s in-residence competition. Cendrine Despax notes the positive influence that participating in festivals, in which they met world-class quartets, has had on the Despax Quartet\u2019s growth. Thanks to professional mentoring and a number of masterclasses, the quartet has carved its path towards musical excellence.<\/p>\n<p>Despax is also on a mission to honor today\u2019s liturgical music in a purely classical way and does so by performing it in its intended location. As such, from 2011 to 2013 it held a residence at Montreal\u2019s Saint-Jean-Baptiste church and has been the residing act at Gatineau\u2019s Notre-Dame-de-la-Guadeloupe church since September 2013. It will celebrate its fifteen year anniversary at the same church on July 4<sup>th<\/sup>.
