Il est \u00e9tonnant que le groupe (le clarinettiste Joaquin Valdepe\u00f1as, le violoncelliste David Hetherington et le pianiste Serouj Kradjian, qui a succ\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 la retrait\u00e9e Patricia Parr) ait tenu si longtemps consid\u00e9rant qu\u2019\u00e0 part les trios de Mozart, Beethoven et Brahms, il existe tr\u00e8s peu de partitions pour cette configuration d\u2019instruments. Amici contourne ce probl\u00e8me en ex\u00e9cutant des duos (pour clarinette et piano ou violoncelle et piano) et des pi\u00e8ces solos et en invitant des artistes invit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>La soprano Mireille Asselin est l\u2019invit\u00e9e de cette c\u00e9l\u00e9bration pleine d\u2019imagination, diversifi\u00e9e et inspirante du 150<sup>e<\/sup> anniversaire du Canada. D\u00e8s sa premi\u00e8re entr\u00e9e dans <em>The World is Waiting for the Sunrise<\/em> d\u2019Ernest Seitz, elle attire l\u2019attention sur la beaut\u00e9 pure de sa voix et la facilit\u00e9 et le naturel de son phras\u00e9. Ai-je mentionn\u00e9 que cette musique a \u00e9t\u00e9 compos\u00e9e par un enfant de 12 ans\u00a0? Malgr\u00e9 son talent et ses \u00e9tudes en Europe avec Josef Lh\u00e9vinne, Seitz (1892-1978), n\u00e9 \u00e0 Hamilton, a pass\u00e9 la plus grande partie de sa vie \u00e0 g\u00e9rer le concessionnaire automobile de sa famille \u00e0 Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>Les arrangements g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement habiles de Kradjian sont parfois trop astucieux. <em>Maple Leaf Forever Rag<\/em> de Scott Joplin lance des citations obscures de <em>The Maple Leaf Forever<\/em> et de l\u2019<em>\u00d4\u00a0Canada<\/em>. Ses arrangements sont aussi injustes pour le violoncelliste\u00a0: le violoncelle a rarement l\u2019occasion de chanter dans son registre sup\u00e9rieur.<\/p>\n<p>La pr\u00e9sentation de l\u2019album laisse \u00e9galement beaucoup \u00e0 d\u00e9sirer. Il n\u2019y a pas de traduction ou de texte imprim\u00e9 pour les chansons de Leonard Cohen et Joni Mitchell. Peut-\u00eatre ont-ils \u00e9t\u00e9 laiss\u00e9s de c\u00f4t\u00e9 pour des raisons de droits d\u2019auteur. Tout de m\u00eame, ce CD est une contribution pr\u00e9cieuse pour comprendre et appr\u00e9cier notre patrimoine.
