Marhulets commence \u00e0 \u00e9tudier la musique plut\u00f4t tardivement, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 16 ans, et entend alors un enregistrement du clarinettiste klezmer David Krakauer. Il se sent tellement attir\u00e9 par cette musique qu\u2019il d\u00e9cide d\u2019\u00e9tudier la clarinette et la composition. Quelques ann\u00e9es plus tard, il entreprend des \u00e9tudes \u00e0 Juilliard avec une bourse d\u2019\u00e9tudes compl\u00e8te aupr\u00e8s de John Corigliano, gagnant d\u2019un Oscar et d\u2019un prix Pulitzer. Marhulets confie volontiers que l\u2019enregistrement de klezmer de Krakauer a chang\u00e9 sa vie et l\u2019a encourag\u00e9 \u00e0 devenir le musicien qu\u2019il est aujourd\u2019hui. Il vise \u00e0 faire d\u00e9couvrir au monde entier la nouvelle musique juive. Azrieli Perez a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu\u2019elle est ravie du choix du jury et qu\u2019elle consid\u00e8re Marhulets comme un jeune compositeur \u00e0 l\u2019aube d\u2019une brillante carri\u00e8re, admettant du m\u00eame souffle que le <em>Klezmer Clarinet Concerto <\/em>est \u00ab\u00a0une \u0153uvre dynamique, \u00e0 la fois r\u00e9solument moderne et inspir\u00e9e par la musique juive traditionnelle\u00a0\u00bb. Le jury provenait de diverses sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9s du domaine musical et r\u00e9unissait entre autres le compositeur Boris Brott, la compositrice Ana Sokolovi\u0107, le musicologue Neil Levin et le chef d\u2019orchestre Steven Mercurio. Le prix comprend une somme de 50\u00a0000\u00a0$ de m\u00eame que la chance d\u2019entendre son concerto ainsi que l\u2019\u0153uvre du compositeur Brian Current,<em> The Seven Heavenly Halls, <\/em>interpr\u00e9t\u00e9s par l\u2019Orchestre symphonique de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n<p>Maintenant \u00e9tabli \u00e0 Los Angeles, Marhulets a remport\u00e9 un vif succ\u00e8s avec la composition de la musique de films comme <em>The Orchestra of Exiles<\/em>, <em>The Giver<\/em>, <em>The November Man <\/em>et <em>Sabotage. <\/em>Il a \u00e9galement compos\u00e9 un \u00ab\u00a0op\u00e9ra klezmer\u00a0\u00bb, <em>The Property, <\/em>pour le Chicago Lyric Opera ainsi que d\u2019autres \u0153uvres pour des \u00e9v\u00e9nements d\u2019envergure ou des ensembles c\u00e9l\u00e8bres comme le JACK Quartet. Il a aussi re\u00e7u la bourse Susan-W.-Rose, le prix Peter-D.-Faith et cinq r\u00e9compenses de l\u2019ASCAP, parmi lesquelles figure le prestigieux prix Leonard-Bernstein.
