L\u2019\u00e9nergie et le drame d\u2019un programme tout russe (Khatchatourian, Prokofiev, Tcha\u00efkovski et Moussorgski) se pr\u00eate parfaitement \u00e0 cet ensemble hors du commun.<\/p>\n<p>Avec un tel rassemblement de claviers, les six interpr\u00e8tes parviennent sans difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 reproduire la vari\u00e9t\u00e9 timbrale d\u2019un orchestre complet. \u00c0 titre d\u2019exemple, on peut <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/lZM6WK3_vHI\" target=\"_blank\">voir ici<\/a> leur version du <em>Sacre du Printemps<\/em> de Stravinsky. Comme l\u2019explique la pochette d\u2019album, les six pianos sont r\u00e9partis en forme de demi-lune sur la sc\u00e8ne. \u00c9mulant un orchestre, les pianos \u00e0 l\u2019avant jouent le r\u00f4le des cordes, ceux \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re font la percussion, et ainsi de suite.<\/p>\n<p>Comme l\u2019a fait remarquer ma coll\u00e8gue qui passait par l\u00e0 lorsque j\u2019\u00e9coutais l\u2019album, on ne croirait pas entendre six pianos, ne serait-ce que pour la grande \u00e9nergie d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e par l\u2019ensemble. Les pianistes Sandra Murray, Claire Ouellet, Mariane Patenaude, Francis Perron, Pamela Reimer et Louis Dominique Roy ont un jeu d\u2019ensemble solide et synchronis\u00e9 qui met particuli\u00e8rement en valeur les pi\u00e8ces rythm\u00e9es. En fait, la profusion de touches jou\u00e9es simultan\u00e9ment rappelle un peu l\u2019effet surhumain d\u2019un piano m\u00e9canique!<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019album s\u2019ouvre et se termine par une dizaine de mouvements tir\u00e9s des suites orchestrales de Khatchatourian. Entra\u00eenantes compositions aux titres imag\u00e9s, ces pi\u00e8ces pourraient facilement accompagner un film muet. La syncop\u00e9e <em>Danse des montagnards<\/em> et la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre <em>Danse du sabre<\/em> ressortent du lot.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019Ouverture-fantaisie <em>Rom\u00e9o et Juliette<\/em> de Tcha\u00efkovski est peut-\u00eatre l\u2019un des seuls endroits de l\u2019album o\u00f9 un orchestre aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 plus efficace. Les longues lignes m\u00e9lodiques pourraient \u00eatre support\u00e9es par un son soutenu dans les cordes, mais l\u2019effet d\u00e9sir\u00e9 n\u2019est pas tout \u00e0 fait atteint par les six pianos. L\u2019arrangement de Francis Perron n\u2019est pas en faute, c\u2019est tout simplement une des limites de l\u2019instrument.<\/p>\n<p>Le point culminant de l\u2019album est d\u00e9cid\u00e9ment <em>Une nuit sur le mont Chauve<\/em> de Moussorgski, qui \u00e9veillera des souvenirs chez quiconque a grandi avec le <em>Fantasia<\/em> de Walt Disney. L\u2019arrangement de Louis Dominique Roy est terrifiant \u00e0 souhait, et des glissandi aigus au piano remplacent \u00e0 merveille les effets de vents.<\/p>\n<p>La pochette d\u2019album comporte aussi une fascinante conversation avec Marie Patenaude qui discute de la gen\u00e8se du groupe, de leurs habitudes de r\u00e9p\u00e9tition, et du r\u00e9pertoire pour six pianos.<\/p>\n<p>Bref, un brillant album qui se d\u00e9marque par son originalit\u00e9, autant au niveau du r\u00e9pertoire que de l\u2019ensemble. Orford Six Pianos se produit \u00e0 Parry Sound, ON, le 6 ao\u00fbt prochain.
