Le livret en anglais de Titilope Sonuga conserve la structure en distiques rim\u00e9s de l\u2019original ainsi que les interactions avec le Diable sous ses multiples apparences, et le r\u00e9sultat est remarquable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> La pi\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 jou\u00e9e, dans une version sc\u00e9nique compl\u00e8te, par l\u2019Art of Time Ensemble et des acteurs au Harbourfront Centre de Toronto en octobre 2024 et est d\u00e9sormais disponible en version audio num\u00e9rique, avec en bonus la suite de Stravinsky inspir\u00e9e de l\u2019\u0153uvre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">J\u2019ai assist\u00e9 au spectacle sur sc\u00e8ne et j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 profond\u00e9ment \u00e9mu. L\u2019exp\u00e9rience, uniquement audio, est diff\u00e9rente, mais tout aussi intense. L\u2019absence de distraction visuelle permet de se concentrer sur le livret intelligent de Sonuga et les excellentes prestations. La narratrice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ordenastephensthompson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ordena Stephens-Thompson<\/a>, nous pr\u00e9sente le parcours du jeune homme, issu d\u2019une lign\u00e9e de guerriers ghan\u00e9ens, qui souhaite prouver qu\u2019il est un combattant aussi dou\u00e9 que n\u2019importe quel autre dans ce qu\u2019on lui d\u00e9crit comme \u00ab\u00a0la guerre des Blancs\u00a0\u00bb. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notre soldat, interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Olaoluwa Fayokun, rencontre \u00e0 plusieurs reprises le Diable, qui lui donne un violon magique en \u00e9change de son totem, l\u2019oiseau Sankofa. Il finit par s\u2019enr\u00f4ler, mais uniquement dans un bataillon de travail. La Grande-Bretagne, la France et m\u00eame l\u2019Allemagne peuvent envoyer des soldats de couleur au combat, mais pas le Canada, pays racialement pur\u00a0! Tout au long de l\u2019histoire, Fayokun fait preuve d\u2019une grande dignit\u00e9 et l\u2019acteur chevronn\u00e9 Diego Matamoros offre un portrait d\u2019une grande finesse du Diable sous ses diff\u00e9rentes formes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pour le spectacle, Andrew Burashko a dirig\u00e9 un ensemble de jeunes musiciens exceptionnels de la Glenn Gould School. Il dispose ici d\u2019une formation professionnelle compos\u00e9e de Benjamin Bowman (violon), Eric Abramovitz (clarinette), Amy Horvey (trompette), Robert Conquer (trombone), Kris Maddigan (percussions), Joseph Phillips (contrebasse) et Thomas Roy Rochette (basson), avec Waleed Abdulhamid au tama (ou \u00ab\u00a0tambour parleur\u00a0\u00bb) pr\u00e9enregistr\u00e9. Sans surprise, leur interpr\u00e9tation est excellente et ils offrent une version vive et incisive de la partition entra\u00eenante de Stravinsky, tant dans la pi\u00e8ce que dans la suite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sankofa<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9 au studio Revolution Recording de Toronto en mars 2025. La suite a \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9e aux studios Desert Fish en avril. J\u2019ai \u00e9cout\u00e9 la version 96\u00a0kHz\/24 bits et elle est excellente dans les deux cas, d\u2019une grande clart\u00e9 et d\u2019une pr\u00e9sence remarquable. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une sortie exclusivement num\u00e9rique, \u00e9galement disponible en format sans perte 44,1\u00a0kHz\/16 bits et MP3.
