Theodorakis, d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 en 2021, est rest\u00e9 politiquement actif jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fin.<\/p>\n<p>Sa musique de concert a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9clips\u00e9e par son statut d\u2019ic\u00f4ne nationale et de prisonnier d\u2019opinion. Theodorakis a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9tenu \u00e0 deux reprises dans des camps de concentration, pendant la guerre civile de la fin des ann\u00e9es 1940 et sous le r\u00e9gime des colonels deux d\u00e9cennies plus tard.<\/p>\n<p>Le manuscrit de sa premi\u00e8re symphonie a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9gar\u00e9 lors de son incarc\u00e9ration en 1949, r\u00e9\u00e9crit dans un deuxi\u00e8me camp et achev\u00e9 en libert\u00e9 alors qu\u2019il \u00e9tait \u00e9tudiant en 1954. Le compositeur s\u2019est ensuite rendu \u00e0 Paris, o\u00f9 il a suivi les cours de Messiaen au Conservatoire et s\u2019est li\u00e9 d\u2019une \u00e9troite amiti\u00e9 avec son compatriote, l\u2019ultra-moderniste Iannis Xenakis.<\/p>\n<p>La premi\u00e8re symphonie appara\u00eet comme l\u2019\u0153uvre na\u00efve d\u2019un jeune homme sentimental, s\u00fbr de ses convictions et habile \u00e0 capter l\u2019attention avec des th\u00e8mes grandioses. Le mouvement central oscille entre tristesse et espoir. Les premier et dernier mouvements doivent beaucoup aux symphonies de guerre de Dmitri Chostakovitch, au point d\u2019en devenir des citations flatteuses.<\/p>\n<p>Cette symphonie m\u00e9rite largement que vous lui consacriez une demi-heure de votre vie. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une musique dramatique, tr\u00e8s repr\u00e9sentative de son \u00e9poque, mais sans pr\u00e9tention, bien \u00e9crite et clairement hell\u00e9nique dans ses m\u00e9lodies plaintives et son irr\u00e9m\u00e9diable nostalgie. L\u2019Orchestre philharmonique de Fribourg joue avec vigueur et enthousiasme sous la direction d\u2019Ektoras Tartanis, avec une superbe ing\u00e9nierie sonore assur\u00e9e par la Radio du sud-ouest de l\u2019Allemagne.
