Il met l\u2019accent sur les \u0153uvres de jeunesse de Wagner (<i>Die Feen<\/i>, <i>Rienzi<\/i>, <i>Lohengrin<\/i>), mais pas avant d\u2019avoir explor\u00e9 au pr\u00e9alable le paysage musical ant\u00e9rieur au compositeur et qui, pour l\u2019essentiel, est rest\u00e9 dans l\u2019ombre. Le titre de l\u2019album prend alors tout son sens.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Spyres s\u2019exprime ici dans toutes les langues principales de l\u2019art lyrique (fran\u00e7ais, allemand, italien) et dans tous les styles. D\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9coute de <i>Vainement Pharaon<\/i> de M\u00e9hul, on ressent une attention particuli\u00e8re \u00e0 la diction fran\u00e7aise, semblable \u00e0 de la dentelle. Dans <i>Fidelio<\/i>, le soliste se transforme en un chantre du romantisme \u00e0 l\u2019allemande et prend soudainement une plus grande \u00e9paisseur dramatique. <i>Della cieca fortuna <\/i>de Rossini, la pi\u00e8ce suivante, d\u00e9montre encore une autre facette de M. Spyres, celle d\u2019un v\u00e9ritable belcantiste \u00e0 l\u2019italienne. L\u2019ex\u00e9cution de cet air m\u00e9connu rel\u00e8ve du prodige, tant le t\u00e9nor se joue sans effort apparent de la tessiture stratosph\u00e9rique impos\u00e9e par le compositeur. On peut en dire autant de l\u2019air de Bellini, <i>Me protegge<\/i>, n\u00e9cessitant une virtuosit\u00e9 \u00e0 toute \u00e9preuve.<\/p>\n<p>Parmi les influences plus directes au style wagn\u00e9rien, mentionnons seulement les airs en allemand \u00e9crits par C. M. von Weber, Spontini, Marschner. Le sens du drame, empreint de passion, et l\u2019ampleur de l\u2019\u00e9criture, prolongeant sans cesse le souffle m\u00e9lodique, sont communs aux trois et tracent certainement la voie jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Wagner.
