De Bach \u00e0 Busoni, de Prokofiev \u00e0 Peja\u010devi\u0107, sur une demi-douzaine d\u2019\u00e9tiquettes, le percussionniste mancunien devenu pianiste a suivi son propre chemin, loin des sentiers battus. Il est un pianiste tout \u00e0 fait libre d\u2019esprit et j&#8217;ai appris au fil des ans \u00e0 me fier \u00e0 son jugement.<\/p>\n<p>Class\u00e9 deuxi\u00e8me au Concours Tcha\u00efkovski de Moscou en 1982 (o\u00f9 aucun premier prix n&#8217;a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cern\u00e9), Donohoe a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 une affinit\u00e9 pour les Russes de tous les styles et de toutes les \u00e9poques. Le compositeur Serge\u00ef Tane\u00efev, souvent consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme l&#8217;\u00e9l\u00e8ve pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 de <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/myscena.org\/norman-lebrecht\/lebrecht-weekly-tchaikovsky-5th-symphony-etc-ica-classics\/\">Tcha\u00efkovski<\/a><\/strong>, est rarement cr\u00e9dit\u00e9 pour sa voix propre. Son quintette, dat\u00e9 de 1911, est ancr\u00e9 dans Schumann et Brahms, avec un mouvement fun\u00e8bre de Tcha\u00efkovski et une certaine fantaisie parisienne. C&#8217;est assur\u00e9ment le sommet de son \u0153uvre.<\/p>\n<p>Entre les mains de Peter Donohoe et du <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sacconi.com\/\">Quatuor Sacconi<\/a><\/strong>, elle appara\u00eet comme un soupir pour une \u00e9poque moribonde de musique maison amateur, \u00e0 la fois nostalgique, civilis\u00e9e, \u00e9mouvante et individuelle \u2212 un chef-d&#8217;\u0153uvre en miniature d&#8217;un compositeur pr\u00e9cisionniste qui n&#8217;a trouv\u00e9 ni l&#8217;amour ni la reconnaissance de masse dans sa vie en vase clos. Tane\u00efev mourut quatre ans plus tard, apr\u00e8s avoir attrap\u00e9 une pneumonie lors des fun\u00e9railles grandioses d&#8217;Alexandre Scriabine.<\/p>\n<p>Le quintette de Schumann de 1844, arch\u00e9type du genre, fait l&#8217;objet d&#8217;une pr\u00e9sentation pensive, ses couches lyriques \u00e9tant \u00e9tay\u00e9es par des bruissements d&#8217;inqui\u00e9tude et de doute. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/myscena.org\/fr\/zenith-wolfe\/critique-cd-clara-et-robert-schumann-musique-de-chambre-pour-cor-atma-classique-2023\/\">Robert Schumann<\/a><\/strong> l&#8217;a \u00e9crit \u00e0 l&#8217;occasion d&#8217;une tourn\u00e9e en Russie avec sa nouvelle \u00e9pouse, Clara. Ce que Donohoe met en \u00e9vidence, c&#8217;est son r\u00f4le central dans la perception russe du r\u00f4le de la musique de chambre dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 en mutation.
