Il a jou\u00e9 aux Proms avec Henry Wood et, apr\u00e8s la guerre, dans des concerts sous la direction de Toscanini, Furtw\u00e4ngler, Karajan, Klemperer, Britten et Pierre Monteux. Ce dernier avait d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu&#8217;il ferait un bon chef d&#8217;orchestre. La direction d&#8217;orchestre est largement confondue avec l&#8217;imitation et la communication. Marriner a appris des meilleurs.<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019une approche pratique en r\u00e9p\u00e9tition et discr\u00e8te le soir venu, il \u00e9tait sous-estim\u00e9 par les critiques qui attendaient de grands gestes pour r\u00e9compenser leur pr\u00e9sence. Les musiciens, en revanche, reconnaissaient en lui un coll\u00e8gue d&#8217;une sensibilit\u00e9 hors du commun et d&#8217;une humanit\u00e9 sans faille. La pr\u00e9sente s\u00e9rie de symphonies de Beethoven des ann\u00e9es 1980 est la preuve de cette rare combinaison de style personnel et de r\u00e9ceptivit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Avec l&#8217;Academy of St Martin in the Fields, un groupe de musiciens m\u00e9contents des autres orchestres londoniens, Marriner a pratiqu\u00e9 la d\u00e9mocratie active et r\u00e9alis\u00e9 un bon compromis entre l\u2019esbroufe des grands orchestres et les th\u00e9ories sur les instruments d&#8217;\u00e9poque qui ont domin\u00e9 le milieu \u00e0 partir des ann\u00e9es 1950. \u00c9coutez son interpr\u00e9tation de l&#8217;\u00ab\u00a0Eroica\u00a0\u00bb et vous constaterez une absence rafra\u00eechissante de direction dogmatique, le sens de la musique \u00e9mergeant organiquement de la logique des notes. La <em>Symphonie n<sup>o<\/sup> 4 <\/em>est, \u00e0 mon avis, d\u2019un lyrisme in\u00e9gal\u00e9. L&#8217;absence de grandiloquence dans la <em>Symphonie n<sup>o<\/sup> 5<\/em> est tout \u00e0 fait rafra\u00eechissante. La <em>Septi\u00e8me<\/em> danse comme un bal \u00e0 l&#8217;ancienne dans une ville banale. Si vous voulez de la folie de maestro, allez voir ailleurs. Il s&#8217;agit d&#8217;un ensemble Beethoven \u00e0 garder \u00e0 port\u00e9e de main, avec lequel montrer \u00e0 ses amis comment une phrase d\u00e9licate devrait id\u00e9alement se d\u00e9rouler.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1054946 size-main-full\" src=\"https:\/\/myscena.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/485_204943_20_6_20Neville_20Marriner_203D_20copy-e1710048687258.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Si cela ne vous fait pas passer \u00e0 l\u2019achat, le coffret contient deux interpr\u00e9tations du <em>Concerto pour violon<\/em>, l&#8217;une par Iona Brown, associ\u00e9e proche de Marriner et premier violon, et l&#8217;autre par le jeune Gidon Kremer, qui joue la cadence outrageusement assembl\u00e9e par le dissident sovi\u00e9tique Alfred Schnittke \u2212 si outrageusement que je pense qu&#8217;il s&#8217;agit de sa premi\u00e8re apparition sur disque. Vous aurez besoin de vos dix doigts pour compter la multitude de grands concertos auxquels Schnittke fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence.\u00a0 Ce coffret Beethoven n&#8217;est pas pour No\u00ebl.
