Elle fut une Salom\u00e9 et une Elektra c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9e \u00e0 La Scala sous la direction d\u2019Arturo Toscanini. Elle s\u2019est \u00e9galement distingu\u00e9e comme la Cio Cio San dans la version remani\u00e9e de <i>Madama Butterfly<\/i>, apr\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9chec de l\u2019op\u00e9ra \u00e0 sa premi\u00e8re \u00e0 La Scala. Or, cela risque de changer gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une nouvelle biographie \u00e9crite par l\u2019avocat de Toronto Andriy Semotiuk, son petit-neveu.<\/p>\r\n<p>Un formidable pav\u00e9 de 465 pages, l\u2019ouvrage est cependant de lecture agr\u00e9able. C\u2019est un travail d\u2019amour, c\u00e9l\u00e9brant et honorant la carri\u00e8re et la vie d\u2019une grande soprano ukrainienne et servant \u00e0 lui redonner sa juste place dans l\u2019esprit des amateurs d\u2019op\u00e9ra.<\/p>\r\n<p>N\u00e9e en 1872 \u00e0 Bielawi\u0144ce, en Galicie, qui faisait alors partie de l\u2019Empire austro-hongrois et maintenant Biliavyntsi en Ukraine occidentale, Krushelnytska a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 l\u2019op\u00e9ra au Conservatoire de Lviv et plus tard \u00e0 Milan, Vienne et Paris. En 1904, elle connut le triomphe dans la nouvelle mouture de <i>Madama Butterfly<\/i> \u00e0 Brescia. Elle fut \u00e9galement une wagn\u00e9rienne acclam\u00e9e, notamment pour son Elsa dans <i>Lohengrin<\/i> \u00e0 Paris. Sa carri\u00e8re l\u2019a men\u00e9e dans les grandes maisons d\u2019op\u00e9ra en Europe, en Am\u00e9rique du Nord et du Sud et m\u00eame en Afrique.<\/p>\r\n<p>Dans les ann\u00e9es 1920, Krushelnytska fit des tourn\u00e9es de concerts au Canada et aux \u00c9tats-Unis. Elle est retourn\u00e9e en Ukraine juste avant l\u2019\u00e9clatement de la Deuxi\u00e8me Guerre mondiale. En raison de la situation politique de l\u2019\u00e9poque, la fin de sa vie fut assombrie par les difficult\u00e9s et la pauvret\u00e9. Cette biographie, \u00e9crite dans la perspective d\u2019un membre de sa famille, dresse un portrait authentique de Krushelnytska la chanteuse et la personne, donnant des d\u00e9tails intimes sur sa vie priv\u00e9e jusqu\u2019ici ignor\u00e9s du public.<\/p>\r\n<p>Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019invention du phonographe au tournant du si\u00e8cle, il existe un assez grand nombre de t\u00e9moignages de l\u2019art de Solomea Krushelnytska, qu\u2019on retrouve sur YouTube et ailleurs. Malgr\u00e9 une technique d\u2019enregistrement encore primitive, on per\u00e7oit la qualit\u00e9 exceptionnelle de sa voix.
