Presque tous ses op\u00e9ras ont connu un succ\u00e8s imm\u00e9diat, si bien qu&#8217;il n&#8217;a gu\u00e8re pris la peine d&#8217;\u00e9crire autre chose \u2212 \u00e0 l&#8217;exception d&#8217;un peu de musique d&#8217;\u00e9glise, d&#8217;un quatuor \u00e0 cordes et d&#8217;une poign\u00e9e d\u2019airs de salon qui n&#8217;ont gu\u00e8re retenu l&#8217;attention. Je ne pense pas avoir d\u00e9j\u00e0 entendu un album complet de ces airs.<\/p>\n<p>Son empreinte est reconnaissable de part en part. Un <em>Storiella d&#8217;amore<\/em> \u00e9crit au d\u00e9but de sa vingtaine ressemble \u00e0 l&#8217;esquisse d&#8217;un air de Mimi dans <em>La Boh\u00e8me<\/em> dix ans plus tard. L\u2019air-titre, <em>A te<\/em>, \u00e9crit alors qu&#8217;il n&#8217;avait que 16 ans, sonne comme des raclures de Verdi. <em>Avanti, Urania<\/em> appartient davantage au mode Tosca. Les airs, accompagn\u00e9s au piano, sont mi\u00e8vrement agr\u00e9ables, \u00e0 la limite de l&#8217;insignifiance. Le dernier morceau, <em>Melanconia<\/em>, vise la profondeur psychologique et la rate de peu. Puccini avait de nombreux atouts, mais la profondeur, la spiritualit\u00e9 et l&#8217;intellect n\u2019occupaient pas une grande place dans son portefeuille cr\u00e9atif.<\/p>\n<p>Accompagn\u00e9e par Vincenzo Scalera, la soprano roumaine Angela Gheorghiu exploite ces miniatures au maximum de leurs possibilit\u00e9s. La derni\u00e8re fois qu&#8217;elle a chant\u00e9 \u00e0 Londres, Gheorghiu a \u00e9t\u00e9 critiqu\u00e9e dans le <em>Times<\/em> pour avoir chant\u00e9 ses trois premiers airs en d\u00e9saccord avec l&#8217;orchestre. Ici, il n&#8217;y a aucun probl\u00e8me d&#8217;intonation (\u00e0 moins qu&#8217;elle n&#8217;ait \u00e9t\u00e9 corrig\u00e9e num\u00e9riquement). L&#8217;instrument de Gheorghiu est toujours formidable et agr\u00e9able, malgr\u00e9 une tendance \u00e0 la stridence dans les aigus. Je reconnais \u00e0 la productrice Anna Barry le m\u00e9rite d&#8217;avoir su contenir les d\u00e9bordements \u00e9motionnels et d&#8217;avoir laiss\u00e9 Gheorghiu nous rappeler comment elle sonnait \u00e0 son meilleur.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Giacomo Puccini est mort il y a 100 ans d&#8217;un cancer de la gorge.
