Ce sont des pi\u00e8ces instrumentales solo principalement du d\u00e9but de la p\u00e9riode baroque et d\u2019un caract\u00e8re semblable \u00e0 celui des pr\u00e9ludes, plus connus, pour violoncelle seul de Bach. Sur le r\u00e9cent album de Cameron Crozman, paru chez ATMA Classique, c\u2019est \u00e0 un autre compositeur que le violoncelliste rend hommage\u00a0: Domenico Gabrielli (1651-1690), auteur de 7 <i>ricercari <\/i>durant l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1689. L\u2019interpr\u00e8te les joue tous sans exception, mais choisit intelligemment de les ordonner diff\u00e9remment de sorte que l\u2019\u00e9coute soit la plus agr\u00e9able possible.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019originalit\u00e9 du projet tient surtout du fait que plusieurs cr\u00e9ations command\u00e9es par Crozman sont de compositeurs aux nationalit\u00e9s diverses (canadienne, fran\u00e7aise, colombienne, am\u00e9ricaine). Ainsi, l\u2019Ancien et le Nouveau communiquent dans un dialogue le plus souvent nourri et constructif. Bien que dissonante, la pi\u00e8ce <i>Quasi Cadenza <\/i>d\u2019Alexina Louie s\u2019articule tr\u00e8s bien \u2013 et m\u00eame harmonieusement \u2013 avec les troisi\u00e8me et cinqui\u00e8me <i>ricerari<\/i>. Idem pour <i>Primary Colors <\/i>de Nina C. Young. Chaque fois, on retrouve dans ces cr\u00e9ations un caract\u00e8re inspir\u00e9, introspectif, qui donne le sentiment d\u2019\u00eatre improvis\u00e9e sur le vif et se marie parfaitement avec leurs lointaines cousines baroques. <i>Fleet <\/i>de Jordan Pal \u00e9claire une autre facette du genre, \u00e0 savoir la virtuosit\u00e9 de ces morceaux que l\u2019on consid\u00e8re souvent de mani\u00e8re isol\u00e9e comme des \u00e9tudes. En revanche, <i>Senderos<\/i> de Daniel Alvarado Bonilla para\u00eet trop entrecoup\u00e9e de silences, avec un trop grand usage de cordes effleur\u00e9es qui ne fait pas autant honneur \u00e0 la verve de Gabrielli. Outre les \u0153uvres de Beno\u00eet Sitzia et Kelly-Ann Murphy, mentionnons la musique compos\u00e9e par l\u2019interpr\u00e8te lui-m\u00eame, <i>Falling Forward<\/i>, et qui emprunte quelques traits au style baroque, notamment le choix de notes qui enflent et s\u2019\u00e9vanouissent.
