En 1996, Ofra Harnoy passait quatre jours dans les c\u00e9l\u00e8bres studios londoniens d\u2019Abbey Road pour enregistrer ce qu\u2019elle d\u00e9crit comme un \u00ab\u00a0cheval de bataille\u00a0\u00bb du r\u00e9pertoire pour violoncelle avec l\u2019Orchestre philharmonique de Londres. On croyait les bandes ma\u00eetresses perdues jusqu\u2019en 2022, lorsqu\u2019une recherche approfondie a permis de les d\u00e9couvrir. Les enregistrements sont aujourd\u2019hui publi\u00e9s pour la premi\u00e8re fois sur cet album, accompagn\u00e9s d\u2019une version rematric\u00e9e de son enregistrement de 1995 du <i>Concerto pour violoncelle en r\u00e9 mineur<\/i> d\u2019\u00c9douard Lalo.<\/p>\n<p>Harnoy interpr\u00e8te le monumental concerto d\u2019Elgar avec pr\u00e9cision et \u00e9l\u00e9gance. Parfois, au nom du raffinement, elle sacrifie le drame et la profondeur attendus dans ce r\u00e9pertoire romantique. Certains passages sont peu phras\u00e9s, ce qui peut s\u2019expliquer par son penchant pour une certaine discr\u00e9tion \u2013 ou peut-\u00eatre par son jeune \u00e2ge \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque o\u00f9 cet enregistrement a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 (elle n\u2019avait encore qu\u2019une vingtaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es). Cela dit, la clart\u00e9 et la pr\u00e9cision avec lesquelles elle joue sont les bienvenues, en particulier dans le deuxi\u00e8me mouvement, caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 par des passages de doubles croches rapides et implacables. Son interpr\u00e9tation est assur\u00e9e et parfaitement nette\u00a0: elle brille dans le troisi\u00e8me mouvement, un <i>adagio<\/i> d\u00e9chirant. Elle accorde autant d\u2019attention aux silences qu\u2019aux m\u00e9lodies, rendant un effet tendre et pur.<\/p>\n<p>Par le pass\u00e9, Mme Harnoy a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu\u2019elle ne pouvait pas terminer ce concerto sans pleurer et, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9coute de ce mouvement, on comprend pourquoi. Son interpr\u00e9tation du concerto de Lalo est tout aussi parfaite, riche, chaleureuse et \u00e9mouvante.
