En cherchant \u00e0 apporter du r\u00e9alisme au sacr\u00e9, il a captur\u00e9 la beaut\u00e9 inattendue d\u2019un monde de mendiants, de prostitu\u00e9es et de la lumi\u00e8re et de l\u2019ombre des quartiers pauvres. Il a ainsi \u00e9lev\u00e9 le sacr\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re plus exquise que presque tous ceux qui l\u2019ont pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Ce dernier film du r\u00e9alisateur italien Michele Placido, mieux connu pour le drame policier <i>Romanzo Criminale<\/i> (2005), b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie \u2013 et parfois souffre \u2013 du m\u00eame paradoxe. Capturant somptueusement les fameux effets de clair-obscur, <i>Caravage<\/i> est un portrait franc, souvent brutal, recouvert d\u2019une patine de bon go\u00fbt.<\/p>\r\n<p>Interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Riccardo Scamarcio (le vilain de <i>John Wick 2<\/i>), Caravage est un peintre de la Renaissance viril jouant la vedette, \u00e0 la fois arrogant et sentimental. Le personnage secondaire de l\u2019agent (Louis Garrel), employ\u00e9 par le pape, enqu\u00eate pour savoir si le Caravage m\u00e9rite d\u2019\u00eatre graci\u00e9 apr\u00e8s avoir tu\u00e9 un rival dans une bagarre. Cette m\u00e9thode polici\u00e8re cr\u00e9e un portrait kal\u00e9idoscopique de l\u2019artiste, \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re de <i>Citizen Kane<\/i>. Il est vu \u00e0 travers les yeux de ceux qui l\u2019ont aim\u00e9, d\u00e9test\u00e9 ou c\u00f4toy\u00e9, au premier rang desquels sa puissante protectrice, Constanza Sforza Colonna (Isabelle Huppert).<\/p>\r\n<p>L\u2019agent est un peu comme le Salieri de Mozart du Caravage, un gardien aust\u00e8re des valeurs conservatrices d\u00e9concert\u00e9 par le g\u00e9nie indisciplin\u00e9 de sa proie. Pourtant, le film est empreint d\u2019un certain conservatisme, notamment lorsqu\u2019il minimise le statut du Caravage en tant qu\u2019ic\u00f4ne homosexuelle.<\/p>\r\n<p>Le <i>Caravaggio<\/i> de Derek Jarman, en 1986, est, caract\u00e9ristiquement, un film biographique beaucoup plus radical \u00e0 tous les niveaux.
