Alors que des pi\u00e8ces m\u00e9lancoliques pour piano solo pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es en succession risquent de fr\u00f4ler la banalit\u00e9, Hamelin r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 en manipuler habilement la qualit\u00e9 la plus excitante, l\u2019intimit\u00e9. La relation \u00e9troite et unique qu\u2019entretient Hamelin avec ce r\u00e9pertoire se manifeste d\u00e8s le premier nocturne en mi b\u00e9mol mineur. La forme et le contour de ses phrases ainsi que la l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 de son jeu se fondent pour cr\u00e9er un son bien adapt\u00e9 au caract\u00e8re de l\u2019\u0153uvre.<\/p>\n<p>Les barcarolles produisent un effet similaire. Bien qu\u2019elles soient l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus aventureuses que les nocturnes en termes de tessiture et de texture, le principe de \u00ab proximit\u00e9 \u00bb de l\u2019\u00e9criture demeure le m\u00eame. Hamelin maintient l\u2019unit\u00e9 entre la main gauche et la main droite, m\u00eame lorsqu\u2019elles se trouvent aux extr\u00e9mit\u00e9s oppos\u00e9es du clavier. L\u2019auditeur peut facilement anticiper les changements m\u00e9lodiques, alors qu\u2019il remplit et revient aux octaves moyennes. Hamelin maintient le lyrisme mentionn\u00e9 plus haut dans ces climax musicaux.<\/p>\n<p>Le dernier morceau est la suite <i>Dolly<\/i> pour piano \u00e0 quatre mains. Ici, Catherine Fuller se joint \u00e0 Hamelin pour interpr\u00e9ter une \u0153uvre qui imite l\u2019intimit\u00e9 de la vie de Faur\u00e9, compos\u00e9e pour la fille d\u2019Emma Bardac, l\u2019amante commune de Faur\u00e9 et de Debussy. La suite \u00e9voque le nocturne dans sa berceuse d\u2019ouverture et la barcarolle dans sa valse entra\u00eenante du quatri\u00e8me mouvement. Dans l\u2019ensemble, elle offre une nouvelle perspective sur la profondeur harmonique de Faur\u00e9, m\u00eal\u00e9e \u00e0 une joie de vivre que l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation de Hamelin et Fuller restitue comme il se doit.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019album tient parfaitement sa promesse de pr\u00e9senter les nocturnes et les barcarolles de Faur\u00e9.
