Le r\u00e9cit raconte une histoire d\u2019amour malheureuse qui se termine par l\u2019union des amants pour l\u2019\u00e9ternit\u00e9 sous forme de papillons. Chen Gang et He Zhanhao ont \u00e9crit en 1958 un concerto pour violon sur ce th\u00e8me, bas\u00e9 sur des chansons folkloriques chinoises utilisant la gamme pentatonique, qui est imm\u00e9diatement devenu un succ\u00e8s populaire. La version originale est \u00e9crite pour soliste et orchestre sur des instruments occidentaux. Dans cette version, Joshua Bell est accompagn\u00e9 par un orchestre d\u2019instruments traditionnels chinois.<\/p>\n<p>Bell sonne merveilleusement bien dans <i>Les Amants papillons<\/i> et dans les autres pi\u00e8ces du disque, qui comprend la <i>M\u00e9ditation<\/i> <i>de Tha\u00efs<\/i> de Massenet, l\u2019<i>Introduction<\/i> et le <i>Rondo Capriccioso<\/i> de Saint-Sa\u00ebns et les <i>Zigeunerweisen<\/i> de Sarasate. Son timbre riche et sa technique infaillible utilisent beaucoup de rubato et de portamento. La seule difficult\u00e9 de l\u2019album r\u00e9side dans les niveaux d\u2019enregistrement. Bell est beaucoup trop pr\u00e9sent, au point que l\u2019on n\u2019entend pas suffisamment l\u2019orchestre pour appr\u00e9cier le son des instruments chinois.
