Sous la direction exceptionnelle d\u2019Adam Johnson, en remplacement d\u2019Alain Trudel, les musiciens de l\u2019Orchestre classique de Montr\u00e9al ont fait vivre au public l\u2019un des grands moments du festival. Et pas seulement parce que c\u2019\u00e9tait le dernier de la programmation!<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>D\u00e9j\u00e0 habitu\u00e9 \u00e0 pr\u00e9senter des cr\u00e9ations de compositeurs canadiens, l\u2019OCM ouvrait le concert par une pi\u00e8ce du Montr\u00e9alais Brian Cherney, <em>Illuminations <\/em>(1987), suivie des c\u00e9l\u00e8bres <em>Illuminations <\/em>(1940) de Benjamin Britten. Avec \u00e0 peine 14 musiciens sur sc\u00e8ne, l\u2019orchestre de chambre est parvenu \u00e0 cr\u00e9er une ambiance \u00e9th\u00e9r\u00e9e, mystique, comme s\u2019il accompagnait un r\u00eave \u00e9veill\u00e9. La musique de Cherney comportait aussi des textures plus denses, par moments tr\u00e8s dissonantes, qui offrait une belle alternance aux passages plus \u00e9pur\u00e9s. \u00c0 la fin de l&#8217;ex\u00e9cution, le compositeur de 80 ans est mont\u00e9 sur sc\u00e8ne avec entrain pour recevoir les applaudissements chaleureux du public<\/p>\r\n<div id=\"attachment_1031702\" style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1031702\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1031702\" src=\"https:\/\/myscena.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/334652370_215984394256928_3002908939820988448_n-e1678321050397.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myscena.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/334652370_215984394256928_3002908939820988448_n-e1678321050397.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/myscena.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/334652370_215984394256928_3002908939820988448_n-e1678321050397-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/myscena.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/334652370_215984394256928_3002908939820988448_n-e1678321050397-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1031702\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Annette B. Woloshen<\/p><\/div>\r\n<p>Les courtes interventions d\u2019Adam Johnson entre chaque \u0153uvre sont \u00e0 saluer. Celles-ci pr\u00e9paraient bien le public \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9coute et \u00e9taient d\u2019autant plus remarquables que ce chef, ancien assistant de Kent Nagano \u00e0 l\u2019Orchestre symphonique de Montr\u00e9al, n\u2019avait eu que 5 jours pour se pr\u00e9parer lui-m\u00eame avant le concert.<\/p>\r\n<p>Pour le Britten, l\u2019effectif a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9am\u00e9nag\u00e9 et renforc\u00e9 notamment chez les violoncelles (de mani\u00e8re assez inhabituelle, dans la premi\u00e8re pi\u00e8ce au programme, on trouvait seulement un violoncelliste de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9 de l\u2019orchestre). \u00c0 noter ici l\u2019excellente prestation d\u2019Etienne Lafrance \u00e0 la contrebasse. Son sens du phras\u00e9 et sa pr\u00e9cision dans les attaques ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la tr\u00e8s bonne tenue de l\u2019OCM.<\/p>\r\n<p>La soprano Magali Simard-Gald\u00e8s s\u2019est brillamment illustr\u00e9e dans les 9 m\u00e9lodies que comporte le cycle de Britten. Ses notes tenues sans vibrato ont produit un tr\u00e8s bel effet, sugg\u00e9rant la fragilit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e2me humaine dans \u00ab\u00a0Being Beauteous\u00a0\u00bb (n<sup>o<\/sup> 7).<\/p>\r\n<p>Apr\u00e8s la pause, l\u2019OCM a interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 les <em>Variations sur un th\u00e8me de Frank Bridge<\/em> du m\u00eame compositeur, formidable exemple d\u2019originalit\u00e9 et d\u2019inventivit\u00e9 dans l\u2019\u00e9criture musicale. Cette \u0153uvre, qui s\u2019est conclue par un son g\u00e9n\u00e9reux de l\u2019orchestre, a servi d\u2019excellent point d\u2019orgue au festival MNM 2023. En pr\u00e9ambule, la directrice artistique de la SMCQ, Ana Sokolovi\u0107, a pris soin de rappeler que cette \u00e9dition avait r\u00e9uni pr\u00e8s de 400 musiciens en 17 concerts!<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p><strong><em>Les Illuminations<\/em><\/strong>.
